Re: Why 4k? Why not call it 2160p?
I don't really follow what you are saying, but if you mean that someone needs to work out how to make old content (say a game or video that runs at 800x600 ) look good on a widescreen, HD display, I agree with you. I mean that running a 1280x720 resolution on a 1920x1080 LCD monitor doesn't work an...

Re: Moving from CRT to Eizo FG2421 [EIZO's strobed monitor]
What do you mean by clouding? Crosshatch? Mine has just a tiny bit, only really visible and light backgrounds and searching for it. I mean the picture near the bottom of this review: http://www.flatpanelshd.com/review.php?subaction=showfull&id=1383107475 For a display of that price, this kind of re...

Re: Why 4k? Why not call it 2160p?
What we need are monitors with the same pixel size as CRTs. I'm getting tired of scaling blur... Has anyone calculated what resolution this would require? It would need to be insanely high, I assume, since the factor with CRTs was the thickness of the electron beam?

Re: ezQuake: Just-in-Time VSYNC
Lagless VSYNC ON has been very rare since the days of Mortal Kombat and Super Mario Brothers (believe it or not, those classic games ran VSYNC ON and we never complained about input lag). I think that's because they were using controllers, not mice. Input lag is never a problem for me when playing ...

Re: AMD demos FreeSync (free G-Sync alternative) [AnandTech]
I'm interested at how quick the displays respond. NVidia are using a dedicated controller for this. Maybe they had good reason. If input lag with FreeSync is way worse than G-Sync, then G-Sync wins. If not, then NVidia is running a scam, selling us a solution to an already solved problem

A year ago I've sent NVidia an email about this, but I suspect this kind of email ends up in /dev/null in their offices.

Re: Moving from CRT to Eizo FG2421 [EIZO's strobed monitor]
I read that clouding is an issue with this monitor (well, considering the price anyway) compared to other (even cheaper) VA panels. Is there clouding in yours? I was actually considering this monitor (before I decided to wait for G-Sync) but the missing pivot function drove me off. For the price the...

The 590 doesn't support G-Sync. The supported cards are listed here:erebuss wrote:with G-sync will I have to upgrade video cards? I'm running an Nvidia GTX 590 right now.

Re: New monitor
Whether G-Sync is important to you depends on how much you care about tearing, V-Sync input lag and stutters due to a game's FPS not being 100% in sync with the monitor's refresh rate. This video tries to demonstrate the problem and "emulates" the G-Sync effect (it's in the second half of the video)...

Re: New monitor
If you have extra money to burn, I'd wait for the new monitors from BenQ (the new "Z" models, like XL2420Z and XL2720Z). Asus is probably also going to announce new models.
(Normally I'd mention "wait for G-Sync monitors to come out", but since you're using a Radeon card, it's no option for you.)
