Does Supersampling a Game Improve Motion Clarity With Low Persistence Displays?

I was messing with an hdcrt, a super fine pitch Sony, and I noticed that it seemed like the motion quality was ever so slightly improved when downscaling from 4k and even from 8k. Finding a game to actually work at 1080i was challenging but I found Dead or Alive 5 was able to so I am certain it isn'...

Can algorithms be used to approximate shorter persistence image your eye samples?

Correct me if I am wrong, but higher persistence is blurrier because the eye takes multiple samples of a single frame with slightly offset samples due to eye jitter and blurs them together. With that in mind, take a super high refresh display, instead of just reducing persistence what if you showed ...

Re: Can CRT monitors have motion blur at high resolutions?

CRT does not have the same "more symmetric" persistence motion blur of LCDs (same blur at leading/trailing edges) because phosphor illuminates instantly but fades slower. CRT phoshor has a very noticeably finite fade time. You had phosphor ghosting effects (afterimages) since the phosphor fade take...

Re: Controversial Debate: Is 360Hz+ Worth It?

The left side is for strobing, and the right side if for sample-and-hold: https://blurbusters.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/motion_blur_strobing-vs-nonstrobing.png I am confused does this chart have a typo? It shows impulse displays as having the same blur as the sample and hold? I guess impulse ca...

Re: How many people here are aware of TAA blur?

Update: It turns out this post is just a copypasta of this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/FuckTAA/s/j0Qyj6AYuB So not sure if it's made in good faith or not due to copy and pasting, but their seems to be overlap with the subjects lately & we should all handle it with respect and care, as most of us...

My crt appears brighter at 48hz when flicker is visible

I know I am going to get hate for this, but I find that my crt appears brighter when I run at 48hz instead of a higher hz so that I can see some amount of flicker. I had a crt monitor and crt tv and noticed the tv was brighter than the monitor but one day I decided to run my monitor at 48hz to see w...

oled vs 120hz Plasma Motion Clarity

I found a forum that mentioned overclocking plasma tvs was possible and since they are relatively cheap, I'm thinking about seeking one out to try this. Do you think a plasma tv at 120hz would have significantly better motion than oled at 120hz with bfi? I think they should be about equal because I ...

Re: Do fake scanlines eliminate motion blur problem on OLED for retro games?

Actually, as I am typing this, I realized that motion blur is caused by a pixel being smeared across your eye as your eye naturally moves so I guess motion blur isn't actually dependent on neighboring pixels so my theory wouldn't be true?

Do fake scanlines eliminate motion blur problem on OLED for retro games?

I see a lot of people say that the fake scanline generators you can buy nowadays make needing a crt to enjoy retro games pointless. I initially thought this was false because they would still blur but actually now I am curious if since a scanline generator inserts at a minimum one black line between...

Can the ambient light output by a display decrease the perceived color vibrancy?

I recently used a crt at varying refresh rates and noticed a few things that has made me question how the brain perceives colors on a display. First, is that my crt appears to have more color vibrancy than my lcd in a near black room even though the lcd has a higher contrast ratio by a factor of nea...
