Re: TCL 4K 1000Hz monitor

*snip* Is this the case with Quest 2/3 too? I thought those were using some faster switching LCDs. If it's the same case with Quest 2/3 then LCD is toast for Sample and Hold. Only way I could see 1000hz LCD being viable now is with strobing to hide the GTG transitions(in exhange for some lag). Mayb...

Re: Elementary Explanation: Trying To Understand Pixel Refresh Rate (Was: "New Futuristic Temporal Resolution Hypothesis

*snip* I had forgotten I made this thread. Mark, I am aware of all that you wrote. What I was suggesting is highly(extremely) hypothetical(hence the original title of this thread). I may not have explained my idea very well. I'll try to shorten it. What I was suggesting was basically ''Hertz per Pi...

480Hz OLED will have clearer motion than 1000Hz LCD. Keep this in mind the LCD GtG penalty on refresh rate.
Won't this depend on the GtG figures? Isn't there 0.5ms GtG LCD monitors already?
For example 0.5ms GTG + 1ms MPRT > 0.03ms OLED response + 2.08ms MPRT

Re: Finally proper motion tests in mainstream! RTINGS

I don't know if many know this, but I know who RTINGS hired -- the SmoothFrog inventor works for RTINGS now. I can't say what their name is, but you can tell that the fruits of SmoothFrog is being used by RTINGS. You mean his real personal name? I thought a5hun turned into a game developer? Guess t...

Re: The 480Hz Tour De Force, Chef's Masterpiece: 480HZ OLED PURSUIT CAMERA

*snip* Yeah, driving color-tunable LEDs can’t be easy. Although with R&D there may be solutions that reduce the compuation needed. It will save on bandwidth though. I don’t expect perfect color anytime soon, although eliminating sub-pixels will yield better color purity and less eye fatigue. I thin...

Or the complex LUTs for HDR tonemapping, above the LUTs used for overdrive algorithms (even OLED often still use overdrive, although much more lightly than LCDs need) as well as other picture adjustments. The TCON/scaler is literally a supercomputer nowadays, and we consumers expect to pay less tha...

Re: LCD display question

Are there any CRT Monitors in Venezuela? You may be able to find an old cheapo PC CRT Monitor that will outperform most LCDs. No motion problems with those(so long as you match frame rate to refresh rate and so long as you set 75hz/85hz refresh rate to reduce flicker). Or you could find a cheap used...

Re: OLED questions from a visual neuroscientist

Hmmm, well not sure what you mean with the small object comment... maybe Chief can address that. I’m hypothesizing here but there may be some sort of built-in burn-in mitigation going on. Some links that may be useful: https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/gaming-monitors/asus-pg27aqdm-auto-dimming-when-pla...

1000 FPS is NOT a realistic goal even with computers coming out 30 years into the future we will all long be dead by the time a PC can maintain 1000 FPS in any AAA title
That is where Framegen comes in. You render 100fps and framegen the rest to a 1000fps.
AI will also play a role.

Re: OLED questions from a visual neuroscientist

Also, some other tidbits you might find useful: OLEDs have no phosphor decay so no phosphor trail artefacts during dark scenes like with CRTs. Overall the pixel response time which is in the microseconds is not as fast as the electron gun on a CRT(nanoseconds), so from that perspective they aren't a...
