Re: Two LCD Layers to amplify 1000:1 contrast to 1,000,000:1
I've built a dual layer LCD proof of concept from some 1440p 5 inch LCDs from Topfoison: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/24-digital-hi-end-projectors-3-000-usd-msrp/1528424-let-s-push-2-chip-consumer-dlp-happen-2.html#post50006521 It's quite easy. Problem: 1) Aperture ratio / transmissivity losses: To...

Re: 4K DLP hack for 120 fps -- [for TI 4K projectors]
Ask and ye shall receive! A BFI shader for MPC-HC. Step 1) Save this HLSL code to BFI.hlsl: -------------------------- // BFI Shader for Blurbusters.com // Author RLBURNSIDE // Public domain - use as you wish sampler s0 : register(s0); float4 main(float2 tex : TEXCOORD0) : COLOR { // Set your 3D pro...

Re: 4K DLP hack for 120 fps -- [for TI 4K projectors]
It would indeed be great to be able to apply any arbitrary image-space processing tech via a fake windows display driver + shader injection. I'll look into it! If I get this working, of course. I'm planning on buying either the Optoma UHD 65 or the Acer 4K model (the smaller one) shown at ISE 2017. ...

4K DLP hack for 120 fps -- [for TI 4K projectors]
Hi guys, I figured I should share this here since this site is all about stuff greater than 60hz: https://www.shadertoy.com/view/lslcRr Here's a discussion on AVS regarding my idea to get 120fps in SDR and 96hz in HDR out of these new TI 4K projectors: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/68-digital-projec...

Re: LG ProBeam: 1080p laser projector at 2000 lumen
There is no chance of low-persistence / BFI on projectors (unless you can do 120hz and BFI manually), as that would cut lumens in half which would make it way too dim, and 3D only in the European models since LG decided that 'Muricans hate to benefit from having stereo vision. What sucks is that all...

Re: LG ProBeam: 1080p laser projector at 2000 lumen
It's blue laser + yellow phosphor (to generate red and green) therefore they can't be doing direct RGB laser scanning, since they lost the ability to modulate the colours independently due to only having blue lasers. That also guarantees it's using a physical colour wheel to modulate the RGB sub-pic...

Re: Dell UP3017Q 10-bit 30-Inch 120hz OLED - $5000
Definitely. It seems like OLEDs have the three mutually contradictory design pressures : higher peak brightness, low persistence, and HDR are all orthogonal to one another. At least for spatial light modulators based on multiple modulators. OLED does deliver great contrast and viewing angles, but I ...

Re: Dell UP3017Q 10-bit 30-Inch 120hz OLED - $5000
Drool. One thing I wonder is : to hit 120hz at UHD, why not enable Freesync / Adaptive sync over DisplayPort? Do any Dell monitors actually support Freesync over their DP connectors? Dell has definitely thrown down the gauntlet for the high end, and now it will be up to other monitor makers, hopeful...

Re: Acer S271HL software-only strobed backlight
First off, great work. I could care less about 60hz LCDs since I'll never buy / own one again, but perhaps this kind of thing will open the door towards more open standards that can be used in future 60hz or even 120hz / 144hz monitors and especially TVs which even UHD models can't even achieve FHD ...
