New device: GILT Game Input Lag Tester

Hi, I'm developing a USB device which measures the input lag in a little different way.
Instead of just calculating the display input lag it shows the true latency between the user input from the USB device and the LCD which is what really matters when it comes to gaming. It works with the application I wrote. Yo can set the VSync on and off and compare the results. You can also set the LCD relative brightness (10%-90%) level to which the photoresistor will react. The default is gray 50%. The accuracy I achieved is very good 0.1ms when VSync is on and 1ms with VSync off.

Tell me what you think. Would there be any interest in that kind of device?

It works with any video output connection as the device is communicating with a PC via USB. It can support all the resolutions and refresh rates reported by the display. I tested my custom ones 52,54,56,58 Hz with it. I use them for MAME. It may also work with G/Free Sync but I have no means to test it.

Edit: strange, the post I replied to disappeared.

Did you test it with 144Hz displays? I had 5-6ms avg. with different monitors and setup like this

I tested it so far only on my LG ultrawide monitor and LG HDTV. I will go and visit some shop to test it on more devices as soon as it goes off the protoboard and gets some enclosure.

I used the same setup and the 240fps camera and the results match.

It looks like this so far

As you can see It will be very compact, smaller than Leo Bodnar

And this is the DirectX11 software to display the result

Btw, what camera did you use to achieve so low frametime?

That's a pretty cool device you have there. Oomek you should test with as many monitors you have.

5-6 ms? u sure m8? that's a pretty quick response for mice > game > display.

Edit: i was looking at my results from awhile ago and the best i was getting with a G-Sync chip (G-Sync off) Half-Life 1000fps G303 and a 1000fps camera was 8-9ms~

If anyone cares here are the results https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing I wasn't planning to do anything with them.

Sounds plausible for a high framerate test and vsync off, a little faster than my LCD, but not completely impossible. http://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic ... 280#p15690

My CRT results in CS:GO were around 8ms at 600fps.

Nikon 1 V1 or J1. 1200fps record.
Logitech g100s (500Hz).
1000fps ioquuake3 and ofc vsync off.
