Im located on the east coast of the US and BenQ support that I had to send my monitors to are located on the west coast. It was fairly quick. I'm not sure where you would send yours to in the UK.

[quote="Falkentyne"]What did you try exactly, matthew?

I forgot to mention that I didn't flash with the Linux USB. I actually sent mine in to BenQ. So maybe there is something there that is a bit different.

Hmm...well, did you read the thread, and the other thread on this subject ? It's already been answered. I even answered it in this thread and the other thread about the V4 I made. But here it is again.

(Based on 2720Z V4 vs V2)

1) display port loss of signal fixes.
2) improved overdrive performance in strobed mode. Less default overdrive overshoot (less inverse ghosting) in high AMA and premium AMA blur reduction modes (Set before you enable blur reduction).

3) two new AMA recalibrated settings if AMA is changed after blur reduction is enabled.
BR+ AMA high: Removes all of the inverse ghosting and turns it into normal ghosting. (set AMA high after enabling blur reduction)
Normal ghosting can be almost fully removed (except at the edges of the strobe phase settling errors, or on some sharp color transitions) by setting contrast to 0. 20 gives about the same normal ghosting as the original AMA setting at contrast 43.

Setting contrast to 0 with default blur reduction (AMA high before enabling BBR) shows noticeable 'translucent' white ghosting in place of normal ghosting, and inverse ghosting is still there.
Using new AMA and setting contrast to 0 removes virtually all of this.

BR+AMA premium (set BBR To on then re-toggle AMA to premium): lowers inverse ghosting *SLIGHTLY* over regular BBR+premium (this is AMA premium and then enabling BBR Afterwards). Ghosting seems about the same here as old V2's default BBR settings.

These new/tweaked overdrive settings are undocumented. Benq didn't mention them when another person said he was given V4 firmware to fix displayport signal errors. Also no one else has done a strobe comparison between V2 and V4 yet, even though a couple of people did go to v4 on the 2420Z.

Do you guys think v4 firmware will ever be released for the 2411z? Seems weird that the other two would be released but not that one...

XL2411Z V4 was dumped by whitestar, and available from his thread:
http://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic ... 4&start=10

Funny that the thread title of that thread derailed into a V4 firmware discussion :)

I'll repost the instructions I cobbled together (based on the Linux thread and my own findings).

Here's a picture (from whitestar's dump) of how the Linux probing should look like if everything is done correctly (in most cases, the benq will be on bus 0 instead of bus 1, and trying to find the bus and address if using a desktop (instead of a laptop) might take some extra work.

http://s161.photobucket.com/user/Whites ... p.jpg.html

------------------
Needed:

1) A relatively recent laptop with an integrated network adapter/wifi and a VGA port (this works best and is virtually foolproof). It MAY be possible to use an old Pentium computer with a VGA port, however I do NOT know how Ubuntu can access or even utilize old network adapters. Attempting to use DVI may or may not work.
It *MAY* be possible to use a VGA through a DVI port with a VGA to DVI Adapter and a VGA cable.
2) a computer that can expose its i2c bus. If you have an old Pentium *THAT CAN BOOT WITH A USB BOOT OPTION*, then you should be ok. Again a laptop works best. I can not help if you try this on a desktop.

I did test booting to Ubuntu directly on my desktop with the integrated realtek wired Nic, and it worked and Ubuntu was able to download packages successfully. I was connected to DVI so I did not bother testing the i2c stuff. If you do not have a VGA port available and want to still try through DVI and usb booting through your desktop, that's your choice. Just make sure you have the instructions written somewhere.

First grab a USB flash drive. 8 GB+ works best, though I did use an empty 2 GB one.
Get the ISO for Linux (Ubuntu)
http://releases.ubuntu.com/14.04/
I used the i386 one for my core i7.

Download the easy to use USB installer here:
"http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal- ... -as-1-2-3/"

Install it then boot to the flash drive and run the try Ubuntu mode.
When it finishes loading, open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T);
type "sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list" without the quotes to bring up the editor.
At the end of the second line, add "Universe Multiverse" so the line looks exactly iike this:

"deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty main restricted universe multiverse"
Save and exit the sources.list file.

Then type "sudo apt-get update"
That should download some updates.
Then type:
sudo apt-get install i2c-tools subversion libpci-dev
That should update and install some package lists.

You MIGHT also need this command too.
sudo apt-get install libusb-dev

If everything installs correctly, great.
But now things get tricky.

Using the instructions on this website, you need to find and backup the V4 firmware. The hard part is actually finding the i2c bus where it's located.

"http://boeglin.org/blog/index.php?entry ... -free(dom)"

Type these commands: Remove any quotes I put, though, including the quotes in the wget command (trying to bypass link creation).

"svn co svn://flashrom.org/flashrom/trunk@1846 flashrom"
"cd flashrom"
wget -O- "http://boeglin.org/static/benq/0001-Add ... ocol.patch | patch -p1" (<---the | is the shifted \ key, aka the "Pipe" symbol). On this website, that link shows up truncated with "...." unless you mouse over it. The full link without truncation is on the main site: "http://boeglin.org/blog/index.php?entry ... -free(dom)"
Remove the quote before http and after -p1.

make -j (<-this should make the flashrom patcher with the data for the mstar scaler)

sudo modprobe i2c-dev

sudo i2cdetect -l <--this lists all i2c buses

sudo i2cdetect 1 <---this lists al i2c buses on bus 1.

sudo i2cdump -r 0-127 1 0x50 <--- get EDID (0x50) from bus 1. You are looking for an EDID dump that shows the monitor name in it. You may have to change the 1 to a 0 ( 0 0x50 insteada of 1 0x50), or you may have to change 0x50 to 0x49. Once you find the dump that says "XL2411Z" then you're good to go. In some cases your monitor may be on bus 0, thus the change from a 1 to a 0.

sudo ./flashrom -p mstarddc_spi:dev=/dev/i2c-1:49 <----# identify flash chip, on bus 1 (/dev/i2c-1) at address 0x49. Change the 1 to a 0 if you are on bus 0.

(dump current firmware)
sudo ./flashrom -p mstarddc_spi:dev=/dev/i2c-1:49 -c "MX25L1605A/MX25L1606E" -r backup.bin <--again change the 1 to a 0 if you are on bus 0.

This should take about 5 minutes to dump. Once that's done, copy backup.bin to a folder on the local hard drive (NOT the USB drive) so you can can upload it somewhere. The dumped file should be 2 mb in size. We can easily verify if you dumped the right thing by a hex editor.

If you do take time to look at it from a desktop I'd be interested to see where you find it, mine is always on 4.

This has probably been asked before, so I apologize in advance.

I use the XL2411Z for console gaming (getting a gaming PC in future so will probably use it with that too) and for the most part the strobing really improves the experience. I was thinking of selling and buying an XL2720Z to upgrade to v4 if it isn't already.

Is the strobe effect improved on the XL2720Z over the 2411Z when playing console titles, with version 4 fw? (60hz titles)

Mainly concerning the top and bottom ghosting that is present with strobing on, it's a small thing, but if that has been improved it would be worth the swap for me.

Unfortunately, I don't know, but the TL;DR version is I'd recommend the 2720Z, because you have more usable AMA modes to play with vs 2411Z (3 vs 2; hidden AMA premium on 2720Z is the old V2's AMA high).

You may need to PM Masterotaku for that because he uses 60 hz single strobe far more than I do.
I usually stick to 91, 100 and 120hz, unless games force 60 hz (dark souls 2, ultra street fighter 4, etc)

Far top and bottom ghosting is completely unchanged on V4. That's from strobe crosstalk and that can only be improved by increasing the vertical blanking time (e.g. vertical total tweaks) which can't be used on console. All of the Z monitors perform the same on this.

Also, the 24" and 27" panels seem to come with drastically different overdrive parameters, and gamma handling (e.g. the 27" panel keeps the exact same gamma point to the literal pinpoint whether at 60 hz or 120hz or 144 hz refresh rate or even lightboost mode, but on the 24", 2.2 gamma at 60hz becomes 1.9 gamma at 144 hz and 1.8 gamma in Lightboost mode.

All the panels seem to have a slightly different overdrive gain based on the current refresh rate. 91 hz on the 2720z (I use this for call f duty advanced warfare) in hidden AMA high V4 looks slightly different than 100 hz hidden AMA high v4.

Masterotaku told me that his hidden AMA high on the 2411Z V4 looks like my default AMA high on the 2720Z (faint inverse ghosting instead of thick inverse ghosting), and the 2411z's default ama was unchanged from V2. (keep in mind that on V2, the 24" panels had slightly less ghosting than the 27"), while the hidden AMA high on the 2720Z turns the faint inverse ghosting into contrast adjustable normal ghosting, and the original V2's AMA high has been moved to hidden AMA premium.

The 2411Z and 2420Z have another AMA mode that is similar to the 2720Z's new V4 hidden AMA high, that is, you switch from a lightboost mode resolution (green light has to come on/lightboost has to have been unlocked and activated with 1138 VT at 100 hz or 1149 VT at 120 hz), directly to a benq blur reduction refresh rate, without retoggling AMA or blur reduction. This trick does NOT work on the 2720Z...well...it ....ahem.......works.......but it looks worse than even AMA premium....it's just awful. And this won't work on a console.

Anyway, I guess going with the XL2720Z will give you more AMA settings to play with on V4, on your console, than 2411z/20z will.(3 usable AMA settings vs 2 (Default AMA high, hidden AMA high and hidden AMA premium).

Also, when using the new AMA modes, using FPS1 or FPS 2 picture mode when lowering the contrast might give interesting results. May be worth trying out.

So, idk...it definitely looks like the 2720Z V4 gives you "more" AMA settings to play with.

Hey tecnics, i own XL2720z so i decided to upgrade firmware from v3 to v4 and then to v5 because of losing signal (out of range problems) with displayport. I built a gadget for the XL flashing and only what i'm missing now is a v4 firmware. I downloaded v5 from your link but i did not see v4 for xl2720z there. Can you please upload it?...if you still have it ofc. Thanks
