The best Monitor 1080p for Xbox One & PS4

Post by Monitors » 20 Jul 2015, 03:52

Which of these is the best 1080p 24-inch monitor for consoles without Ghosting, bleeding, double-image, fatigue, blurring, etc

BenQ RL2460HT or BenQ XL2411Z/XL2420Z + Blur Busters Strobe (LightBoost for 60Hz: Gaming Consoles) or you can recommend me one better than these.

I will use only for play in the consoles.

I hope your answer.

You can't use lightboost mode on a console.

Only the Benq Z series can do motion blur reduction at 60hz. The others can't.
ghosting is virtually unavoidable on a LCD. The only monitor that was capable of being 99% ghost free is the Asus VG248QE in Lightboost mode, with reduced contrast (=0) and a service menu tweak to lower the overdrive gain from 0F to 0C (and only after the monitor has been warmed up). This trashes the contrat level but makes the bottom of the screen literally CRT level ghost PERFECT, with the top of the screen within 90% quality. No other method of blur reduction or any other monitor besides a CRT can reach this (moving the contrast up, however, accelerates the overdrive mechanism also and gives more noticeable ghosting).

As far as Benq monitors, Lightboost mode on the 24" benqs (with reduced contrast) looks far better than lightboost mode on the 27" xl2720z benq, but not as good as on the Asus VG248 (they look identical at DEFAULT settings), because you can't tweak the overdrive gain like you can on the VG248, to make things as perfect as possible.

For desktop and console: XL2720Z on version 4 firmware will have better ghosting performance than the 24" Benqs, in blur reduction mode, due to a new AMA setting on the 27" that the 24" benqs do not have (well they have it but on a far reduced improvement), turning on MBR mode, then setting or moving the AMA slider from high to off/premium then back to high (or just pressing enter" then "back" on high) activates a new AMA mode that uses very similar calibrations to Lightboost mode on the same screen: Ghosting is improved massively (90% of the inverse ghosting is removed), but requires contrast 0-15 otherwise the normal ghosting is too excessive.

Due to this new AMA setting, I would recommend XL2720Z for console, if you can get V4 firmware for it. The 24" benqs AMA toggle for V4 isn't nearly as good, unfortunately.

You think that the LG 24GM77 will look better at 60Hz (HDMI) that the BenQ RL2460HT for play in the console?

In the review below says that the LG 24GM77 is better than the BenQ XL2411Z/XL2420Z/XL2430T/XL2720Z.

Reviews of LG 24GM77 + BenQ Z & T Comparison and BenQ RL2460HT

You do understand that the ONLY monitor that can use blur reduction at 60hz refresh rate is the Benq Z series (including XL2430T) right?
The LG can not do this.

Yes, the LG will have better overall colors and should have slightly better input lag with DAS mode on.
But what is more important to you?
The absolute lowest input lag possible? Or a smooth image? Or the lowest "ghosting"? And you need to understand the difference between ghosting and overdrive artifacts. All non blur reduction monitors will show 'ghosting' in a way (sample and hold blurring). However as far as overdrive artifacts (RTA artifacts), here is what you need to know.

1) the best monitor for low overdrive ghosting Is the Asus VG248QE. Asus Tracefree has shown consistently to have the best levels of overdrive of any monitor, including newer gsync monitors. Either tracefree 60 or tracefree 80 wlll give you a very nice image.
https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/asus-vg248qe/

For reference, here is a tracefree chart for the 27" version of the Asus, the VG278H. This exact review shows the VG278HE; the VG278H was shown to have better Lightboost quality than the HE.. the overdrive should be the same on both.
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/asus_vg278he.htm

The VG248QE 24" has even better tracefree quality for overdrive than the 27" model.

This is for NON blur reduction, however.

For blur reduction, your only choice is the Benq Z series. And if you intend to use the Benq Z series for blur reduction, I would ONLY suggest the 27" XL2720Z, due to it having a new, extra AMA mode which will drastically reduce the overdrive artifacts (by toggling AMA high) compared to the 24" versions.

So the best monitor for play in the console to 60Hz (input HDMI) 27-inch 1080p is the BenQ XL2720Z than the others mentioned here?

Why the XL2720Z is better than the XL2430T If this version is the more new and best 24-inch of BenQ without G-SYNC?

People say that will look bad 27-inch 1080p, that´s why I'm looking the best 24-inch 1080p monitor. Google - 27-inch 1080p monitor

I think I'll buy the XL2430T because you say that blur reduction at 60Hz refresh rate is the Benq Z series (including XL2430T); I want to know how to activate the options of Blur Busters Strobe for play in the consoles, because this application does not work with this monitor.

I hope your answer.

You can do that by entering the service menu and turning on the "Single strobe" setting.
You can change the other strobe settings through the service menu.

The windows utility you are talking about is just a front end to communicate with the monitor's internal parameters through DCC commands. You can do the same thing with SoftMCCS (although the strobe settings are called strange names by softmccs, like 'parallelogram" and other VGA type names.

The XL2730z (note: XL2730z freesync version, NOT the XL2720Z) is lacking the single strobe setting. and the last I heard from Chief, he said he would contact Benq about it.
I can't give you direct feedback about the XL2430T as there has been little feedback about this monitor, other than the horribly broken "black equalizer 2.0" setting--leave this at "0".

A few people have uploaded pursuit camera screnshots of the XL2430T's blur reduction and overdrive artifacts. While some have been a bit blurry, they *seem* better than the XL2420Z and XL2411Z from what I can tell (the latter two Z monitors had really bad AMA artifacts in blur reduction mode! (the XL2720Z also has them almost as bad, but the V4 firmware AMA toggle fixes that right up). if this is the case, you should be happy with the XL2430T. But the AMA settings will still be worse than the XL2720Z with the toggle in V4.

This is the best thread I can find with someone who took pictures of the XL2430T.
http://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic ... T&start=10

There's another thread with images of the XL2430T.
You can see that they seem to look 'different', apparently much better.
But masterotaku suggested that this person was not taking "pursuit" camera pictures correctly.
I frankly would trust the first set of pictures as they look like what is expected with benq's overly aggressive AMA.

The following is XL2720Z V4 firmware with the AMA high toggle after blur reduction is enabled "aka AMA Low".
This is with contrast 0. You can compare the difference and see what you will like best. (these are all taken at 100hz in all examples, unless the above post said 120hz).

And here is how XL2720Z looks with V4 and contrast 43, untoggled, normal AMA high.

The rest is up to you :)

I would go for BenQ or ASUS when choosing a gaming monitor. BenQ RL2755HM or ASUS VG248QE would be nice choices for gaming purpose. You can use those for PC gaming too. http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/ ... p/42883071 is a link from Sony forums and you can check this http://www.slothygeek.com/best-monitor- ... -xbox-one/ guide too. Hope those helps.
