BENQ XL2411z - Smart Scaling and other settings greyed out

Post by Zanicl3 » 04 Aug 2015, 07:50

So TLDR i did mess around a bit with the settings, but now I cannot play CSGO anymore stretched 4:3 it always automatically goes to blackbars, which I dont want. I tried resetting the benq settings but that didnt help, could some help me out please?

Heres a vid of me going through my settings maybe i messed something up...

Smart scaling only works under certain conditions;
1) must NOT be 144 hz. All OSD scaling is disabled at 144hz refresh are, as 144hz does not use standard display timings.
2) must be using an emulated screen size in "display mode", like 17", 19", etc (not full, aspect or 1:1).
3) The 4:3 resolution must be defined as a custom resolution instead of a 1920x1080 (Gpu scaled) downsampled resolution--as far as I know--I am not fully sure about this.

I am not sure if GPU scaling needs to be disabled for this to work, either.

Oh yeah thanks, it is because I did put it on 144hz later on that it didn't work anymore, i found out a few days later that I was still running at 60hz. Is there anyway to get rid off the blackbars though when i use 4:3 it wont make me play stretched though

You're using a 16:9 panel. You are going to get black bars no matter what, unless you select "full" (fullscreen) in the OSD, or "scale image to full panel size" (for GPU scaling/GPU scaled resolutions in the video card control panel). But then you will have (I assume) a 4:3 resolution (1024x768, 1280x960) interpolated horribly to 1920x1080 which will look awful. You can keep 1:1 pixel mapping but with black bars, or you can keep the proper aspect ratio with the image stretched vertically to panel size, but black bars horizontally (interpolated "Aspect" or "preserve aspect ratio"")

The ONLY way to get a 1:1 pixel mapped 4:3 resolution on a 1920x1080 screen with no vertical bars above and below the image, but STILL with horizontal bars (If you don't want that, buy a CRT), is to create a 1440x1080 resolution. this is 4:3 but fits in the vertical space of a 1080p screen.

This resolution can't be selected in "standard" resolutions in ToastyX Custom resolution utility; you will need to create it manually as a detailed resolution.

(if you REALLY want to be picky and create a nasty resolution that is bigger than the panel size itself you can create a 1920x1440 one).
You're going to have to mess around with the Vertical Total and Horizontal total to get that working though and I really don't recommend it. 1440x1080 looks proper. But the HT is 2080 and the VT is 1502 (for 1920x1440). VT 1503 will go black screen out of range (VT 1502 Is the hard limit) and VT's lower than 1498 will make the OSD complain about out of range although the display will have an image.

I can't get CRU to add the 1440x1080@120hz to my nvidia control panel.
I've tried reset/reboot/restart but it's just not adding it to my control panel..

Does it add it to the normal monitor resolution panel that is in the windows control panel "Display" area?
I see no reason why it would not work it works for everyone else.
What timings are you using ?

the correct timings should be:
1440, 1080
Porch 88, 4
Sync 44, 5
Horizontal Total 1720
Vertical Total: 1125

Pixel clock should be 232 MHz (at 120hz refresh rate).

I first added it as a detailed resolution but then it didn't show up.
Then i added it in custom extension block as a detailed res and now it does show up but my 1920x1080 @ 120hz and 144hz default detailed resolutions are gone.. i know i must be doing something wrong, just don't know what it is.

Please read the CRU instructions.
CRU performs differently on AMD and Nvidia with extension blocks and I do not have an Nvidia card so I can't help you. Ask on the CRU forums if no one else knows here.

If you use a custom extension block, you need to add the missing resolutions manually. I had to do this on my AMD card.
I added 1920x1080@120hz, front porch 48,3 sync width 32,5 Horizontal total 2080, vertical total (custom) 1500, for my 120hz refresh rate.
