XL2730Z My first TN High performance monitor.

Post by SigmaOrionis » 14 Nov 2015, 11:28

Hi,
sorry for my bad english.
I recently bought a XL2730Z monitor, my previous monitor was a dell U2715H and i've tried the mg279Q ips
first of all, my configuration:

Firmware V002
Connected with displayport to a R9 270X (no freesync)
2560x1440 @144Hz
Blur Reduction: On
Intesity :10, Area: 10
AMA: High
Color reproduction settings according to tft central review.

My matter of concern is that on this monitor, it's really strange but i can see the trace of the mouse at ALL ama settings and blur reduction.
If i move the mouse fast enough i see 2 pointers one following the other. If i scroll pages fast enough the text leaves a trace.
With the previos monitor that i've returned (the ips MG279Q @144Hz) the trace was not noticeable like this.
I've managed to shot a photo of the ufo test at the settings described above.

Anyone please help that would be much appreciated

Hi,
What you are seeing is normal.
Every monitor with a strobed backlight will show those copies of the mouse.
Even CRT screens (which had strobed phosphors) would do the same thing.

You can even do this effect with your hand. watch.

Turn on blur reduction and wave your hand in front of your eyes, between you and the monitor.

See?

then turn off blur reduction and do it again.

What you're seeing is a "stroboscopic" effect. People used to trip out back in the old says when they would do that on CRT's to look like spectral ghosts (only kids would like it though).

The Xl2720Z had a way to turn the inverse corona ghost into a normal ghost. Someone got it to work on the XL2730Z also but they couldn't do it a second time.

Try enabling blur reduction first.
Then go to AMA and set it to high. if it's already on high, either press enter ONCE then press "BACK", or move the slider to off/premium then back to high.

Does this do anything?

On the XL2720Z it would change things a lot.

1) XL2720Z AMA high, contrast=43, also known as "MBR/high" (default AMA setting right after enabling blur reduction when AMA is set to high BEFORE enabling MBR):
(I used low exposure cuz my camera is a cheap sucky camera, that's why its so dark).

2) XL2720Z, AMA "toggled" high (known as Motion Blur Reduction (MBR)+ AMA high), enabling AMA high after blur reduction.
Notice the inverse ghosting has been replaced with "normal" ghost trails.
Image

3) MBR+AMA high and lowering contrast to 10: (BIG improvement. VERY low normal ghosting, black to white transitions show no ghosting, light to darker transitions show some ghosting, no inverse ghosting and no secondary trails (only a faint primary).

Yes V2 is bad now. No AMA low setting for blur reduction!
which means you can't make blur reduction "OFF" use perfect AMA (= tracefree 60 on Asus VG248/278).
V3 is good (has the AMA low setting and profile bugs for blur reduction off that I mentioned) but has displayport bug, can't use displayport.
V4 and V5 are needed to use displayport properly on XL2720Z.
BTW this is an XL2730Z (freesync) thread.

Yes you can use Linux to flash.
use my instructions on page 22:

http://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic ... &start=210

You do not need to go from V3-V4-V5. You can flash V5 directly from V1.
Linux method works but some people had problems recently. Might be some issues with UEFI motherboards and some sort of low level i2c addressing but I don't know.

If you use Linux and your DVI EDID gets corrupted (cant use more than 60hz), you can reflash with this device to fix it.

This device will ALWAYS work.

(they changed name from cart100 to yoycart. same company though so same device).

yes but setting send

1) XL2720Z AMA high, contrast=43, (...)
Can I backup DVI EDID, or don't try upgrade ?
So V3 is good but I can use ony DVI and HDMI port
To V4/V5 I need only special DisplayPort, where I can get it ?

Any certified displayport cable works. I use Accel UltraAV DP 1.2 cable on my XL2720Z.
And if you're looking for the raw firmware BIN files, I don't know where it is. Someone uploaded it in another thread though.

nvm it was here https://onedrive.live.com/?authkey=%21A ... D90690A202

Please do a search. this question has been answered countless times. I'm not going to do a step by step for you when its already been answered. You're also posting in the XL2730Z thread (even though this did get off topic). And I'm not here to teach you how to get the 100% top performance in CS:Go. You can do that by testing your own settings. I don't even play that game! but tldr: VT 1500 tweak at 100hz and 120hz, standard mode, gamma 3, RGB values 100, 100, 92, blur reduction on (+ vsync) are a basic start.

The reason you cant use blur reduction with the VT tweak is because you need to lower the strobe phase setting. VT tweaks limit the maximum strobe phase, which can go up to 100 without a VT tweak. I explained this all in my thread (if you had read it you would know this by now).

You also can't do VT tweaks higher than 128 hz. 129hz is iffy, 130+ hz ="out of range" without LCD Reduced timings.

Also it's best to use ToastyX custom resolution utility (you will need to do a custom extension block for Nvidia cards, though and you will need to add 144 hz 1920x1080 "LCD Reduced" to the extension block if it's custom. If you look at the other thread, monitor_butt had a double image problem when he was using the Nvidia control panel to do VT tweaks. When he used ToastyX CRU, the double image went away and so did his headaches!

And this thread explains all about vertical total tweaks, VT ranges, and formula for calculating the maximum strobe phase setting. Please take your time and read it.
