Would like to reset the setting and do them again

Post by Juka814 » 01 Dec 2015, 22:21

Hello,

I bought the Benq xl2411z monitor today and I am very happy with it. Even before buying it I knew that I will need to adjust the colors and the rest of the settings. So right after I plugged everything in I went straight to this site to adjust it. After I did all of that I found a great video on youtube that is following the instructions from this site along with his personal opinions. I think that following that video after I did this made my screen very dark at the end, but colors are good I think. I was thinking to reset it to default settings (everything) and then just follow the video instructions since they include everything. Here is the link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvsmO5cjB6A
I am looking forward to hear from you soon.

All the best,

I have run blur buster strobe utility again and changed Persistence to 2.5ms.

2.5ms persistence is FAR too high!
That's almost as bright as blur reduction *OFF* at 100 brightness (I just tested it).
That's too bright even for daylight use.

Are you sure you used the DVI pixel clock patcher?
Did you apply the vertical total tweaks correctly?

You can check the information in this thread.

Also check http://www.monitortests.com/ to make sure you applied the DVI clock patcher.

Not sure about DVI pixel clock patcher. I think I applied vertical correctly. The issue is that after I followed this site I went to youtube and followed another explanation which was the same but blur buster thingy was supposed to apply later.

For reference:
When the backlight is using "60hz pulse widths" (whenever you use a VT that is out of specification), which is 0.167ms strobe pulse widths, the higher the refresh rate, the brighter the screen will be. AFAIK you can use VT 1497-1502 up to 128hz refresh rate, all which force 60hz strobe widths (persistence values). The reason for this is rather obvious.

remember I said that during each strobe, the backlight is ON for a short period and OFF for a longer period, which equals the duration of the refresh (frame time?). Well if you think about it, since the backlight is OFF Longer than it's ON, when you increase the refresh rate, you INCREASE the frequency of the strobe also (since it strobes once per refresh) e.g at 60hz, it strobes once every 16.7 milliseconds. At 120hz, every 8.3 milliseconds. So since its strobing faster (more often), the backlight is "off" for a shorter period of time at a higher refresh rate. Yes it's also ON for a shorter period of time too (this is true), but because the "OFF" time has more effect than the ON time (since its off LONGER than its on), the total effect is the screen is brighter, at the same persistence.

With 60hz pulse widths (0.167ms per strobe duty point, up to strobe duty 30), 006 strobe duty is equal to 0.996 (1ms) of persistence.
At 125hz refresh rate (this is assuming you are using VT 1498-VT 1502), 1 ms of persistence with blur reduction on and 100 brightness, is equal in cd/m2 (luminance level) to 30 brightness with blur reduction *OFF*.

First of all I would like to thank you for trying to help me with this. Second I followed the link you provided me ( viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2467 ) but unfortunately it didn't help me. Lastly I am not an expert with monitors so all of the talks about the numbers whatsoever just confuses me more. In my word I am using this monitor on 120Hz with custom resolution of 120Hz and vertical total pixels of 1502 which I changed in NVIDIA Control Panel.

EDIT: Actually I think that holding buttons worked, since my screen is back to very dark again. Btw in that guide you should write from what side to hold buttons.
