Benq XL2411Z - Please Help

Post by gbtg » 25 Dec 2015, 10:25

hey,

i followed this guide: http://www.blurbusters.com/benq/strobe-utility/.

using the strobe utility worked like a charm and i noticed changes in brightness, although there is still an enormous amount of blur when looking at: http://www.testufo.com/#photo=alien-inv ... test=photo . this picture/site shows refreshrate 60hz, although my monitor is set to 120hz. is this normal?

when it came to setting up 'ToastyX Custom Resolution Utility' (i have an AMD card), and using the 1350 trick, i did not notice any change. i then looked into radeon settings and found i could set a custom resolution there as well. these are the settings i was able to set up: http://i.imgur.com/1q7cX2w.png (its in german but i hope its clear enough). you'll notice that it shows CVT at Timings, not manual. after i select manual it will always set it back to CVT once i verify the settings. also, the polarity is positive for both vertical and horizontal, different to the picture shown in the guide: http://www.blurbusters.com/wp-content/u ... n-1350.png. further more it shows refreshrate at the bottom at 101,673789173789 hz.

i read something about having to use an AMD/ATI Pixel Clock Patcher (see here: http://www.monitortests.com/forum/Threa ... tility-CRU), but it was not mentioned in the blur buster guide (http://www.blurbusters.com/benq/strobe-utility/). is this something i need?

are my settings the ones i am looking for or is there anything else i need to do/change? as i said, the ToastyXCRU did for some reason not seem to have any effect, while setting those settings in my radeon settings (the 'new' CCC with the new AMD drivers), the picture became instantly brighter, although the UFO test still has a lot of blur.

now, i read that using motion blur reduction, i get a small amount of input lag. i was willing to deal with it if the blur would actually be reduced by a lot. but looking at this test: http://www.testufo.com/#photo=alien-inv ... test=photo i still ahd a lot of blur. if this is my fault, please tell me what i can do to reduce it further. or is the reason that it is still blurry that this test runs at 60hz? otherwise, how can i reset everything? is turning off blur reduction in my monitors settings enough?

thanks a lot for helping!

Use google chrome for that test. If that test shows 60 fps that's because that browser can't run vsync higher than 105 hz and will cut the FPS in half. Nothing to do with the monitor-every monitor in the world will report 60 hz.

Yes you need the pixel clock patcher. It is required UNLESS all of your VT tweaks keep the pixel clock under 330.00 mhz.
100hz at VT 1350 is unstable. This causes frameskipping I found out, but it occurs once every 7-12 seconds. VT 1354 is flawless. Most people didn't test VTs for frameskipping. However I would prefer VT 1500 for both 100hz and 120hz because crosstalk reduction is better than 1354. VT 1350 is stable at 120hz, just not at 100hz.

The how to on the mainsite is a bit outdated now. Masterotaku and I have found far more information on how VT tweaks work and Chief hasn't been around lately. He really needs to come back.

I would prefer that you use the ToastyX CRU rather than Crimson. Crimson wont let you create unsupported resolutions. Did you know that your XL2411Z can run 2560x1440@100hz? (hell it can even run it at 61hz, but NOT at 60hz).

These timings for a direct hardware scaled work in CRU for 2560x1440@100hz (requires patcher of course):
2560x1440
active: 2560, 1440
front porch 48, 3
Sync width 32 5
Horizonal Total: 2080
Vertical Total: 1500.

If you enter these into Crimson editor under Active: 2560x1440 (and resolution 2560x1440)
(the totals below that for horizontal and vertical total pixels take in the 2080 and 1500),
Crimson just says "unsupported resolution" as Crimson wont allow you to create anything the monitor doesn't officially support, only higher refresh rates and different timings) and you can "downsample" higher resolutions by keeping the "Active" at the native resolution of 1920x1080.

The rumor that blur reduction adds input lag are from people using a strobe phase of 000.
Strobe phase of 000 adds input lag equal to one frame.
If you use a HIGH strobe phase, NO input lag is added at all. Same as blur reduction off.
Credit goes to Masterotaku for finding this out before anyone else.

You will need to read my other posts including my "VT Info . AMA low" thread to understand why and how. Don't expect to understand everything at once. It took me *YEARS* to find out all of this information.
