Hi!

I'm pretty new to the 144hz monitor scene and just used this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvsmO5cjB6A to set up my BenQ XL2411Z. I mainly use this monitor for playing Counter-Strike Global Offensive and there I play with a 1440x1080 stretched resolution.

I got some questions/problems and hope you can help me with that :)

1. First problem is that I think I have a lot of crosstalk (like black lines which look like Honeycombs, I guess thats crosstalk) when using 1440x1080 resolution. I got an amd gpu so I'm using CRU. These are the settings for regular 1920x1080p:

Is there anything that I can tweak to solve this? GPU scaling is deactivated because I get less fps with it and I can't get it to be stretched.

2. I'm using currently 120hz because in the guide it said with the strobe utility you can only use 120hz but I read 125hz is possible, too. Is there any disadvantage to use more than 120hz (like can it fry or something?).

3. Is the utility the right thing for games like CSGO or should I just use regular 144hz?

1) use VT 1500, not VT 1502, at 120hz. VT 1502 is fine at 100hz and usually at 125hz (I found VT 1497 most reliable at 125 hz), but the scaler chip sometimes glitches out and starts frameskipping (maybe 10% of the time) on a mode switch at 120hz with VT 1502. It doesn't do this with VT 1500. This wont affect your crosstalk issue however but VT 1502 At 120hz sometimes doesn't sync correctly (EVEN with blur reduction off), maybe 10% of the time.

2) you aren't using VT tweaks at 1440x1080. Since you created a detailed resolution override for 1440x1080 specifically for 120hz, it's using the default VT of 1125 which will have a LOT of crosstalk at 120hz. What you should do is either enable GPU scaling, so 1440x1080@120hz uses your 1920x1080@120hz timings and downscales them to 1440x1080 (then the VT tweak for 1920x1080 will be active at 1440x1080), or delete your 1440x1080@120hz and make it 60hz instead. Then any refresh rate that is NOT 1440x1080@60hz (e.g. 1440x1080@120hz, 1440x1080@144hz, 1440x1080@100hz) will be GPU scaled automatically (without you having to enable it), because the resolution already exists (just not the refresh rate)

3) You can use the "Toggles" mentioned in this thread to lower the ghosting of blur reduction a bit (if you use blur reduction off, you can even lower the AMA high setting from the atrocious defaults to a much better value, using my toggles):

Also, regarding scaling at 1440x1080 at 120hz (the resolution you made)
the ONLY reason the monitor OSD options of 1:1, full size and aspect work at 1440x1080 (1:1 and aspect are both the same in this case and will give 1:1 image ratio with black borders horizontally but NOT vertically) is because the Vertical total default for 120hz and a 1080p screen size is 1138, and you're using a LOWER value than default. So the scaler thinks that the physical resolution is lower than the native resolution vertically (even though its the same), so the monitor OSD options 1:1 and Aspect are unlocked.

There are some problems that happen, however, when you enable GPU scaling at 1440x1080.
1) VT tweak from 1920x1080@120hz (remember change it to VT 1500) gets applied at 1440x1080, which is good and what you want for lower crosstalk (sorry you have no other choice except 1 way, see below).

2) when using 1920x1080@120hz, in fact, when using ANY resolution with a Vertical total tweak (VT), the monitor OSD scaling options become bugged. If you want to know why, you need to read the thread I linked below (which explains that the scaler thinks the vertical resolution is 1440p, not 1080p, when using a VT 1497-VT 1502 tweak, which is EXACTLY the reason why strobe crosstalk is reduced, actually).

3) you absolutely CAN use full screen or 1:1 with GPU scaling at 1440x1080! I just now tested it for you.
You need to go into AMD CCC (Not the monitor picture advanced settings, but the video card settings) and enable "full screen" for stretched and "center" for 1:1 (black bars horizontally, full size vertically).

4) THE ABSOLUTE ONLY way to use DISPLAY SCALING AND reduce the crosstalk at 1440x1080@120hz with a VT Tweak active is to change your VT from 1125 to 1500. However you lose the ability to use the video card to change the 1:1/full/aspect ratios under display scaling.

I don't play CS so I can't help any further. This should be all the information you need.
(BTW please please don't stretch 1440x1080 to fullscreen on a 1920x1080 monitor. Just don't. it looks like complete garbage).

Also you do know that CS:Go uses HOR+ scaling, right?
You should be using 1920x1080 in CS:Go. There is no longer any advantage over using 4:3 anymore. This isn't CS:S or 1.6.
