It has to accept strobing. The internal hardware is exactly the same. Check the Zowie XL2430T thread in general. Same thing happened. Firmware update to change the name. Nothing more.

I would be shocked if Lightboost didn't work, as our VT tweaks rely on the internal Lightboost VT 1497-1502 range. And the XL2430T doesn't support "3d" but the VT tweaks still work as it's too ingrained in the firmware itself and how it interacts with the scalar to be removed.

Once I get a place to live again (I'm still homeless atm), if someone bothers dumping the Zowie XL2720 firmware, I'll flash it with the Mstar device just for kicks. my Mstar device is in storage. Someone would have to dump the firmware with Linux / Ubuntu.

Just received my first XL2720Z and guess what. It's dead. What fun. Will have to return it now. At least I think it's dead. I double and triple checked. The only thing that's alive seems to be this little light in the power symbol that gradually lights up when your hand is close to it.

Just to be clear though: there is no power button on this monitor, right? I couldn't find one at least.

whitestar, try using your thumb to press the power symbol. And make sure your hand is warm. You also need to press it quickly starting from a distance.
Your last monitor was an XL2411Z with normal push buttons. Some people have had problems getting the touch sensitive buttons to respond well. There's even a youtube video about it...

Yeah, I found it out. Thankfully it wasn't dead after all. :)

By the way, are there any good color/calibration settings with Motion Blur on?

No different color settings for MBR on or off. MBR seems to make the colors slightly cooler, but that might be because of the brightness change, although with 1.0ms of persistence (VT tweak in use), MBR on + brightness 100 is about the same brightness as MBR off + 0 brightness. Most important things are the VT and AMA things I wrote so much about already.

BTW what happened to your XL2411Z? Why did you change monitors?
I think getting three XL2735's would be far more exciting with 1440p.

I've been testing the XL2720Z together with my old XL2411T and XL2411Z just to see how it would be to run in triples. XL2720Z in the middle, the two others on each side.

And I actually think it's a little big for my eyes. I get slightly dizzy/confused. So I think I'm going to sell the XL2720Z again and get two 24" screens to go along with my existing XL2411Z.

The only problem is that in order to get Hz over 60 I have to get a couple of monitors with displayport, since my graphics card has 3 DP + 1 HDMI and 1 DVI-DL (can't get above 60Hz on HDMI).

So would a couple of XL2430T be a good match for the XL2411Z? Is the image similar enough that I can use the XL2411Z in the middle and two XL2430T on each side? I'm assuming the XL2430T also has adjustable Hz with BBR in 1Hz steps from 60 to 120Hz and is able to handle the VT trick in a similar way to the XL2411Z?

Any dead pixels or backlight bleed on your XL2720Z? Is it pristine? How's the overall uniformity when on a black or grey screen?
You can test with Eizo Monitor Test. Finalwire Aida64 has an even better monitor tester but that's not a free program, and using the unregistered version gives annoying watermarks.

Was considering taking it off your hands for a spare. I wanted to try the XL2735 but I STILL don't have any confirmation that it can single strobe at 60hz :(

I will do the Eizo test, but honestly I think you will be better off getting a monitor in the US (if that's where you live?). Monitors are much more expensive in Norway. I paid 4300 NOK for this one. That's about 520 USD, and I see it on Amazon for 330 USD. I think I'll return it (if possible), but if everything goes south and I'm just not able to return it or sell it here, then I will lower the price enough for it to be attractive for you.

The monitor looks pristine to me at first glance. I can't see any dead pixels but I haven't been looking for then either.

BenQ didn't abandon the 2720, it's still manufactured under the Zowie name.
