XL24II - extremly dark screen

Post by alongtheway » 23 Oct 2016, 11:05

Hi,

i am very new to this and not really sure of everything.
I try to set up the graphics like this guide is telling :https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/c ... onitor_to/

I got to the point where i have to set up the custom resolution, but somehow it always fails.

When i enter these settings:
http://m60i.imgup.net/1b0ef.png

The screen will brighten up for 2 seconds and the turn extremly dark afterwards. to see anything i have to turn off blur reduction on the screen afterwards.

I tried to do this with total vertical of 1502 as i read somewhere, but this has the same result.

I already used the AMD Pixel Clock Patcher, and in the Monitor Settings tab i choose 120 Hz Refreshrate.

I also tried to use the settings suggested in this thread, to no avail: http://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1758
If it stilli doesn't work, then just use CRU, click add under detailed resolutions and click manual and create a 1920x1080@120hz, with front porch 48/3, sync width 32/5, horizontal total 2080 and VT 1502 (or 1500 or 1350), 1502 gives the most effect of crosstalk reduction from top to bottom, but there's no visual difference between VT 1502 and VT 1500 (although a few refresh rates may look funky with VT 1502 but be fine at VT 1500).
what i will see is that when i restart the drivers with the cru utility, and open CRU again, there will still be an asterix on top of the active Monitor, indicating that there are still changes that are not in effect.

This is my setup:

Win 10 64 bit
Graphics: AMD radeon HD 7870 2Ghz

I hope you can help, thanks in advance!

Don't use the 60hz values when making custom resolutons unless they are actually for 60hz. Those porch and sync values are for 60hz ONLY.

Watch what happens when you make an automatic 120hz custom resolution and then change it to manual timings. That's how you're supposed to do it. Don't edit 60hz timings as they are different.

For 120hz, for future reference, porch 48/3, sync 32/5, HT 2080, VT 1350 (but I prefer 1500 instead; I find 1500 more stable than 1350 although you may have a faint scanlines effect).

For 100hz, porch 48/3, sync 32/5, HT 2080, VT 1354 (do NOT use 1350 at 100hz, it will stutter), but 1500 and 1502 are both fine at 100hz, so I prefer 1500 or 1502 (you may have a faint scanlines effect).

BTW your screen darkens because the strobe phase is set too high. Try setting strobe phase to 000. You can set it there in the service menu.

Also try rebooting then.

Hi,

thank you for your answer.

I did as you said and set the values to what you suggested.
In the service menu i changed the Strobe phase from 100 to 000.

But i still dont have a bright screen, and the asterix in CRU still remains. Is this supposed to be like that, even after i restart the driver?

**MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING THE TOASTYX PIXEL CLOCK PATCHER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! **

CRU should say ** (Active). This is the active monitor.
I don't know about the one *. Aren't they old entries?

One thing you can do is;
run RESET-ALL.exe in the CRU zip package.
restart the driver.
then run CRU again and add your custom resolutions.

I recommend: 100hz:
1920x1080
porch 48,3
sync 32,5
HT 2080, VT 1500

120hz: same as 100hz:
48,3
32,5
2080, 1500

Save the two custom resolutions, exit, restart the driver.

Check CRU.

Set STROBE DUTY to 009 for starters.
Strobe Phase at 000.
Set monitor brightness to "100" (maximum).

Please report back afterwards.
