Zowie XL2720 no inverse ghosting while MBR: off, AMA: high

Post by Nemayu » 27 Apr 2017, 16:47

So it's possible to make XL2720 to have no inverse ghosting and minimal normal ghosting with MBR off.
How:
Make 2 gaming picture modes and save them using pilot (press 1 or 2 or 3 and hold for 8sec+) option without pilot should works too, but I say how I made it.

gaming 1:
MBR:off, AMA: high
gaming 2:
MBR:on, AMA: high

-Turn on gaming 2
-Do AMA-tweak (turn on AMA menu, highlight high and press back)
-Change mode to gaming 2.
Done.

If u don't do AMA-tweak just change picture modes it's still do the job but effect is smaller.

Feel free to test other ama settings maybe there is something better.

I found that when u set ama: premmium on profile 1, then when u make this, call it "mode-tweak" it's still looking better but if u go back to profile 2 it looks very bad until you do ama tweak. I tested few options and described the best two I found.
Both gaming mode profiles I made on standard picture mode. My monitor have V7 firmware.
I was reading a lot about tweaks and didn't find this one. I bought Zowie XL2720 today and still have XL2411Z, so I will test it on XL2411Z later.

Nemayu, can you dump V7 firmware for me?
You can dump with Ubuntu, just stop at the 'creating a backup' and save the backup.

These instructions on page 220 should STILL work from this thread:
http://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic ... &start=220

But some monitors have different flash chip than Macronx MX25L1606E...but flashrom will still have the flash type.

Do you tested it on older firmware? Does it works?
Yes, I can, but not today because I don't even have free pendrives.

Service menu if it helps in anything:

Does repair service reset monitor on time? Because I bought used one which is after repair service and probably it has got 0 power on time (as always i forgot to check this first).

I tested, you can do it without pilot, but side buttons works sometimes but usually not. Is it normal?

The AMA "Low" tweak (for both blur reduction on and the profile switch for blur reduction off) was added in V3 firmware. I never used V3, but it works in V4 and V5.

Looks like Benq also released V6 but didn't tell anyone.
Never saw anyone with V6.
And I wonder what V7 fixed? I'd really like this firmware...
You're the first person who has posted here with a V7 firmware. Though I think other people have it but don't even know about it.

I have Mstar ISP flash device and RT809F device so I cannot brick my monitor.

So it's known tweak?
You can make MBR: off, ama: high with no reverse ghosting?
Because I saw your post somewhere when u say that without MBR and ama high inverse ghosting is to big and didn't tell about "fix".

I will dump it in near future, maybe on sunday.

Yes I can but I always keep blur reduction on at all times.
But some people like to play games at 144hz without blur reduction (crosstalk is very high at 144hz without VT tweaks possible) so I mentioned this in my "Tweak" post on the top sticky of this section.

I found this by accident about a year and a half ago, when I was screwing around with changing presets randomly.

Hi, were you ever able to find time to dump the firmware? :)

http://www.mediafire.com/file/oc4i8bbhi ... backup.bin
Dumped file is created in "flashrom" folder as "backup.bin", right? That's the one I uploaded.

Does name(right-down corner of pic) should appear like that? I was flashing xl2411z a year a go and I think it's correct, but is it true?

It's correct.

The Zowie rebrands now use "Zowie XL LCD" in their Plug-And-Play identification.

We had to release a new copy of Strobe Utility to recognize these.

P.S. Falkentyne, has anyone upgraded an XL2720 to Version 7 firmware?

I'm going to upgrade mine right now.
I do have the Mstar ISP device so I can recover from bricks easily.

Thank you for the dump. I'm just curious what was changed between V5, V6 and V7. I remember someone having a V6 somewhere. Probably some really silly thing.
