If you want strobing do NOT get the XL2730Z.

http://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic ... 2&start=20

there are serious strobe issues with the firmware, it can not accept VT tweaks to lower crosstalk (crosstalk on XL2730Z, position wise on the screen, is the same as XL2720Z without VT tweaks..and XL2730Z can not strobe in sync with refresh rate lower than 120hz (even 110hz fails). you can emulate XL2730Z screen on XL2720Z by using custom timings on XL2720Z:

2560x1440
front porch 48,3
sync width 32,5
horizontal total 2656
vertical total 1500.
refresh rate 100hz.

Crosstalk is too high.
(note: for 115hz change horizontal total to 2641 and vertical total to 1497. only tested with displayport)..

For blur reduction, XL2720Z is still the best monitor to get, because of AMA low mode that does not exist on 24" XL2420Z, XL2411Z and (I'm not sure about) XL2430T. AMA low can be unlocked by enabling blur reduction, then set or press "back" on AMA setting high, or move AMA slider to off/premium then back to high (works best with contrast 5-15, but less than 20). Its because of AMA low mode setting is the only reason I recommend XL2720Z over the 24" versions.

XL2430T has strange profile bugs and presets. There is a large thread in general section on this monitor. It acts the same as XL2420Z for strobing and crosstalk/VT tweaks but there are strange bugs with the profiles, low level calibrations on some, and gamer 1-3 presets not recalling the color calibrations for the originally saved preset and people having problems getting lagom.nl white/black balance correct. Some returned this screen because of the problems.

Thx
Just bought 2720z, but as I buy stuff to fun when I can afford it, cannot atm use it at 120 or 144Hz :P
Just because Intel integrated graphic doesn't support it...and I can't override it, dunno how.
Anyway strobe works with 60Hz ill check if it will hurt my eye/brain and we'll see...On Christmas maybe ill buy nvidia or amd card and then will use at full power(unless u gave me hint how to make 100-120Hz refresh rate on broadwell)
Anyway, switching from 15" ips hp screen(gift from friend) to this mammoth is like day and night difference :)

So, would you guys buy:

XL2720z (CHF 489.-) or XL2411z (CHF 289.-)

The diffrence in price is pretty big, is it also that much better? I would like to get myself a nice new screen. I was looking at the Asus PG279Q, but I have no nerves to spend a fortune for a bad quality monitor like most of them are sadly.

Given the 2 options above, which one would you guys recommend for a mainly FPS Gamer who is also going to use the monitor with his PS4 please?! I also play stuff like Dark Souls etc. I realize the titel with the greatest and the best, and the tallest, but since the price plays a role aswel, I feel like the 2411z would be the right choice, or am I wrong?

XL2720Z has much better overdrive ghosting than the 24" monitors.
They are the same at stock setting but you can use tweak or bug exploit to improve XL2720Z overdrive to be much much better than any of the 24" monitors.

I already explained this here and in many other posts.

It's up to you if you want to pay the price difference.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm just not sure if it's worth the 200.-, struggling pretty hard to make a decision on any screen lately.

I could get the G-Sync Benq for a similar price, oh man -_-

Well did you see the overdrive pictures I posted in the two links? (one with blur reduction off (but that's exploiting a profile bug I described in that post) and the other with blur reduction on).

So you'll be paying $200 extra for the (useful) S-switch, displayport connector and the much improved overdrive settings.
TBH I'd say it's worth it because there probably won't be another monitor out that can do strobing at all (non 50hz) refresh rates including custom refresh rates.

Would you rather get the XL2720z over a good Asus PG279Q?

If I can pay 500.- I could also save up some more. As an example, saving up 300.- more for the PG279Q instead of just rushing a screen with what I have.

The worries I have with the 2720z are the arguments ppl bring about pixel density.

Falken can I have your opinion: If you would buy a screen, which one would you favor/deem as best? (Among all of them, not just the ones I mentioned.) I'm assuming you know more about these things, that's why I'm asking. You can say I value your opinion given all the information you have shared.

I play fast paced shooters like CS:GO, but I also like to play other stuff like WoW, Fallout 4, etc., it would be a great bonus if I could use it with a PS4 aswel. I have a GTX970.

I've spend days looking up reviews for so many screens. There is always something ppl complain about haha.

The PG279Q is horrible. If you want gsync get the XB271HU. The Asus has bad quality control. The acer is a lottery also but the QA on the XB271 (not xb270hu) is better.

You're asking me how to solve/choose your real life decision making issues. I can't do that for you.

If you want gsync get XB271hu. If you want only blur reduction get XL2720Z. Pixel density isn't a problem. I have two VG248QE's also. I can't use them....screen's too small to go back to. My XL2720Z is much better.

Hello all.

Falkentyne

I have just got hold of a Benq XL2720Z and after following instructions on the forum here and on tft central I cannot believe how good this monitor is! It is the first time a monitor has surprised me! It looks stunning in CSGO. I was worried about the whole 27"/1080p gripe that some people had but there is zero pixelation sat pretty close to the display!

I am RMAing the XL2720Z as I have 2 dead pixels. I understand that this could be indicative of possible further issues with the monitor later on. Does anyone know if this is true? Fingers crossed for the replacement.

I previously had an Asus VG248QE and I have just returned a Dell U2515H after a month of use as I simply cannot cope with 60hz now. The Asus also gave me headaches and took along time to get used to the flickering, presumably the PWM.

Thank you for the info on the low AMA setting Falkentyne! I am not sure if I have followed the steps correctly so I will go through them if thats ok. I have V5 firmware. Connected via DVI @ 120hz. AMD Radeon R9 290 Vapor-X by Sapphire. I installed the pixel patcher also. I am using standard mode with blur reduction off to try to get the ama low tweak. I am using the 120hz icc profile from https://pcmonitors.info/icc/BenQ%20XL2420Z%20120Hz.icm

I have basically followed what this guy did on reddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/c ... onitor_to/

"BLUR REDUCTION OFF PERFECT OVERDRIVE CALIBRATION for XL2720Z"

1) Ok this is self explanatory. I saved this to preset 1. Does it matter if I use the s-switch or the monitor buttons?

2) Here I modified the settings blur reduction on AMA high and saved this as preset 2. Using the monitor butons not the s-switch.

3) I presume by MBR you mean the 'blur reduction' setting. If I followed step 2 above I would already have MBR on right? Or do you mean I should go back to preset 1 first (using the s-switch) and then activate blur reduction?

4) Ok...this is self explanatory

5) "Activate the blur reduction off preset directly" By directly do you mean by using the buttons on the monitor? "If you did not save one" - are you referring to the possibility of not setting the preset in step 1 above?

I am using ToastyX Custom Resolution Utility - VT 1500, HT 2080, Front porch 48,3 and sync width 32,5. Should I set contrast to 0 for this? Is there any difference in input lag between 1350 and 1500 with pixel patch? On your blur busters page here http://www.blurbusters.com/benq/strobe-utility/ you mention the 1350 trick. Is this so it is possible to use benq blur reduction + VT tweak + blur busters strobe utility?

PS: I have to right click and run blur busters utility as admin in order for it to work otherwise it just tells me that there is a calibration issue and closes. I dont mind this as long as it works properly.

PSS: Using the VT tweak @ 1500/2080 I am not able to activate blur reduction in the benq menu, is this normal? Screen goes black.

Thank you blur busters for such a fantastic site and thank you for all your hard work!! Many thanks in advance for any replies!

I hope I am asking my questions in the right place, forgive me if I am not :-/
