[FIXED] XB271HU Abmiprz missing from blur busters list

First time poster, here.

I just ordered the Acer Predator XB271HU Abmiprz 27-inch WQHD (2560x1440) NVIDIA G-SYNC Monitor (Display Port & HDMI Port, 144Hz) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N11QIYW/. Yes the Abmiprz. I think this should be added to the official ulmb monitor list because it is actually a TN panel. The Bmiprz is the IPS panel, that one is listed with an affiliate link in the official list here on blur busters, but the other one (Abmiprz) is not listed!

Anyways, I noticed there is an option in the OSD menu that says "Nvidia 3D lightboost level" or something but I can't select it. It's separate from the ULMB toggle. Does anyone have the IPS version of this panel to check out if they have this "lightboost" option in the OSD as well?

I already packed it up because I'm going to return it (the coating on the panel is WAY to "sparkly" for me). But if no one else can verify this menu, before I send it back and when I have a chance to pull out my 3d vision glasses, I will start a new thread on the XB271HU Abmiprz to discuss ulmb performance/ghosting (ghosting is MUCH worse than my dell s2716dg by the way) and this strange "lightboost" setting, but I wanted to give a quick note right now that this XB271HU Abmiprz is not in the official list here on blur busters.

Thank you for this great forum!!!!

That's quite a catch of a subtle error!
Yes, we got confused between the XB271HU and XB271HUA which is IPS versus TN.... I've fixed the panel type in the list!

This activates only when LightBoost is enabled, instead of ULMB. Basically, you'll need to connect your 3D Vision glasses to be able to adjust the LightBoost Level.

But you don't need to adjust this for ULMB.

There's a different (but same behaviour) adjustment called "ULMB Pulse Width" setting does essentially the same thing as LightBoost Level -- basically a pulse-width tradeoff of brightness-versus-clarity. As you adjust Pulse Width, you will see TestUFO Moving Map become clearer versus softer. But you also get a light-output tradeoff (darker and clearer -- or brighter and softer). LightBoost Level adjustments also is a brightness-versus-clarity tradeoff too.

ULMB Pulse Width does exactly the same thing...

Strobe pulse widths create only very subtle improvements (sometimes less than a pixel's worth) in motion blur, in exchange for reducing brightness of the monitor, but some people really like the extra-low persistence (in some cases, less than 0.5ms) that is possible with the ULMB Pulse Width adjustment.

That is very strange. My main display is the XB271HU (IPS version). Looks like it's still here on Amazon (perhaps it is only now available via marketplace sellers?):

I didn't even know a TN version of the model existed. Also, no, I don't have a Lightboost option in the OSD, just ULMB.

Damn, I found 4 different Amazon codes for the XB271HU(A).
Two North America, two UK. One each TN and IPS.

I've fixed the monitor list now to include both.

Hey! Thanks for the quick response.

I'm going to be a bit nit-picky here since there is so little info online about the abmiprz (TN) model (and because Acer made this so confusing!).

European model names

I see you are correct about the Great Britain TN version being listed as

Model Name: Predator XB271HUA
Part Number: UM.HX1EE.A01

Here: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/p ... .HX1EE.A01

and Great Britain IPS version being listed as

Model Name: Predator XB271HU
Part Number: UM.HX1EE.005

https://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/p ... .HX1EE.005

American model names

So from my research, here are the model numbers and screen types (and websites for reference):

XB271HU-bmiprz, IPS, $749.99
Model Name: XB271HU bmiprz
Part Number: UM.HX1AA.001

US Amazon page: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0173PEX20?tag=blurbust-20
Acer product page: ps://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/predator- ... .HX1AA.001
Acer store page: https://us-store.acer.com/27-predator-g ... 1hu-bmiprz

XB271HU-abmiprz, TN, $599.99
Model Name: XB271HU abmiprz
Part Number: UM.HX1AA.A01

US Amazon page: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB ... lurbust-20
Acer product page: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/p ... .HX1AA.001
Acer store page: https://us-store.acer.com/monitors/gami ... hu-abmiprz

You'll see that the Acer product page incorrectly mentions IPS on the abmiprz page, but lists as TN on the acer store and amazon pages. If you look at the reviews for the TN version (abmpirz) on amazon, you will see that some 1 stars were left because it was erroneously listed as IPS a few months ago.

I used the blur busters best monitors list to make my buying decision (I'm in America) when I wanted to get a g sync / ulmb monitor, so I want others to get the correct info too. Forgive me for being so detailed here, I've been going over this stuff for weeks lol.

The mysterious Cbmiprz

Probably not necessary for the list, but interesting nonetheless, is that there is a FIFTH model name for this monitor. It is the Cbmiprz. Some say this stands for the recertified/refurbished version and some think it stands for the version sold at "Costco" stores here in America (perhaps to prevent price matching by changing the model name slightly).

Refurbished: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/ ... p/dfldadm/
Costco: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comme ... miprz_and/

I have only seen Cbmiprz listed as IPS.

Model Name: XB271HU Cbmiprz
Part Number: UM.HX1AA.C01
Condition: Factory Recertified

Fantastic research!

It is hard to track. Given over 150 models (not including subtle variants) of monitors combined that has either VRR or Strobe or High Hz (or all) -- there is a separate GSYNC list and a FreeSync list which are more exhaustive (includes 60Hz displays excluded from the main list).

If you see errors, do not hesitate to post!

Sorry for hijacking, but my question doesn't need an own thread.

I'm looking forward to get the XB271HUb (IPS) version.

I'm in no real hurry, so is there any chance we'll see a 27", 1440p 240hz display in the next few months?

@value,

I recently posted the AUO Optronics 2018 Panel Production Roadmap story, and while they're apparently prepping to produce 27" 1440p 240Hz TN panels, there appears to be zero plans for IPS versions; 4k 144Hz HDR is next for those.

So I wouldn't wait unless you want to hold out for a $1200-1500+ 4k 144Hz HDR IPS model next year. My guess is release of 240Hz IPS panels (in any resolution) are probably a year or two away, at least.
