For me, the most unusually impressive thing that happened during AGDQ 2014 is a demonstration of hacking of a Super Nintendo through the controller port -- to install a game on PONG into Super Mario World on an unmodified SNES running an unmodified Super Mario World cartridge.

Exploiting a bug in Super Mario World and then transmitting several bytes of arbitrary executable code data through the controller port -- to run a game of pong.
