4k at 120hz+ impossible with current gpu's?

I currently have an 8gb r9 290x and was planning on getting a 2nd for crossfire for when a 4k monitor at higher than 60hz comes out.

But it appears that the inputs for the 290x do not support 4k above 60hz, so is this entirely pointless?

I read that HDMI 2.0 can support 120hz 4k, but displayport 1.2 can not, even though they have near the same bandwidth.

Will it be possible to have a dual Displayport 1.2 to displayport 1.3 or something like that?

Indeed, pointless. Moreover, by the time 120Hz 4k displays are out, I daresay the 290x will be very long in the tooth. In other words, don't expect this for at least another couple years

as you can see, DP1.3 only if you want 4k @ 120hz

and yes, current gpus are WAY MORE THAN enough... i would get to play all my source games and early 2000s shooters @ max @ 120 @4k no probs with a single 290/970
