Hello all, my new XB270HU is my first ever foray into the high refresh monitor market and I'm just wondering if there is anything I can do to really get the best out of it, I currently have it set to 165Hz at a resoultion of 2560x1440 and it looks really nice but I notice a blur/ghosting effect in games when either the camera pans or the scene is generally in motion which can get a little distracting, is there anything I can do to minimise this that I just don't know about? Maybe messing around with the nvidia control panel settings or whatnot? Sorry If I'm beiong a bit vague this is all still quite a learning curve for me
My computer settings if needed:
CPU - i7 4790K
GPU - GTX 980ti
RAM - 8gb DDR3
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Help with new XB270HU
You'll have to use ULMB at 120 hz to get rid of that blur. It's a combination of pixel lag and persistence. I'm curious as to what your previous display was? Surely it would have the same or worse blur?Stargazer wrote:Hello all, my new XB270HU is my first ever foray into the high refresh monitor market and I'm just wondering if there is anything I can do to really get the best out of it, I currently have it set to 165Hz at a resoultion of 2560x1440 and it looks really nice but I notice a blur/ghosting effect in games when either the camera pans or the scene is generally in motion which can get a little distracting, is there anything I can do to minimise this that I just don't know about? Re: Help with new XB270HU
I have tried ULMB but it replaced the blurring with a strange stuttering effect which to be honest looks worse than the slight blur It could be the settings I'm using as again I'm not very well versed in all this. My old "monitor" was an HDTV XD so yeah it did have the bluring but I thought going to this monitor would eliminate that :3aeliusg wrote:You'll have to use ULMB at 120 hz to get rid of that blur. Re: Help with new XB270HU
You were using G-Sync before enabling blur reduction. Frame drops were handled nicely and without tearing or stuttering. With ULMB (which doesn't work at the same time as G-Sync), you have to make sure that your framerate = your refresh rate. At 120Hz you need 120fps with vsync for perfect smoothness. You also have 100Hz and 85Hz modes if you can't reach those fps.Stargazer wrote: I have tried ULMB but it replaced the blurring with a strange stuttering effect which to be honest looks worse than the slight blur

Re: Help with new XB270HU
ULMB will work without the stuttering if you can maintain fps above the refresh rate at all times, but blur will occur without ULMB regardless even with this 165 hz monitor because of pixel transition times and pixel persistence - this is inherent to LCD technology. If you're used to it, I wouldn't worry about it and use G-Sync instead. Otherwise you will have to maintain a minimum of 85 fps with ULMB at 85 hz to have reduced blur without stuttering. Of course, if you can maintain a higher fps e.g. 100 or 120 fps it will help to reduce blur further if you set ULMB to 100 or 120 hz.
Edit: Already answered above.

Guess I need to play around with it a bit more and see what I can do, thanks for the info guys, hopefully I can get this to work just nice

Re: Help with new XB270HU
Did you overclock the monitor to achieve 165Hz? I wasn't aware the XB270HU was capable of 165Hz.

Re: Help with new XB270HU
Newer versions of the XB270HU Gsync module have the same upgrades that the XB271HU has--meaning 165 hz can be enabled through the monitor OSD settings. I think this only applies to XB270HU's that have a September or newer manufacture date.

Ah, that's really good to know. Thanks Falkentyne.
I recently purchased the XB270HU, but unfortunately it's the older version (accidentally got the TN version. Bought a refurbished model from Acer on Ebay, and I didn't realize TN versions with the same model # even existed. Only paid $445 or so though, and it looks fantastic for a TN panel, so I'm not too upset).
