I'm looking to pick up a new monitor because it's been 4-5 years since my last purchase, and I'm trying to dig around the forums to find a recommended monitor thread or something along those lines. I probably missed it, but I'm starting one to ask my question here anyway!
I'm looking for a monitor that is primarily for gaming, especially FPS games. I have an NVIDIA GTX 1080 video card. I don't necessarily plan on going SLI, so I think 4K is unnecessary for my application.
What are some good monitors in the 24"-28" range for FPS gaming? I don't have a specific budget, but recommendations in budget brackets would be welcome (Best and Bang-for-the-Buck in particular).
Is G-Sync worth it over the motion blur tech in BenQ, Asus, and other monitors? 144Hz? 1440?
Thanks all. Excited to find a community of monitor nerds and I look forward to becoming much more expert in them myself.
Monitor Recommendation List?
Re: Monitor Recommendation List?
Found the BenQ Zowie XL2735 and now I want that... probably because I can't have it yet.

With G-Sync you also get ULMB which is a Blur Reduction utility, so if you get a G-Sync monitor you also get Blur Reduction!
Asus ROG Swift PG279Q is probably one of the best monitors out ATM, it's 1440p, 160hz, IPS with G-Sync and preforms really well compared to other monitors in the same 'Class' but it does cost a bit.

Newegg has it for $799 or $679 (Openbox)
Benq has a pretty bad rap in my mind for ignoring important tweaks and settings for such a long time that the new Zowie one might still be broken.

Got the BenQ Zowie XL2735.
Initial impressions were horrible. Incredibly bright and washed out (see attached).
I tweaked with it for about an hour and it's looking really good now.
Still, what a horrible way to ship a monitor. It makes a nasty first impression but turns out to be pretty incredible.

Re: Monitor Recommendation List?
Luckbad, for the Love of God, please, tell me if this can STROBE at 100hz refresh rate!
Set it to 100hz and then enable blur reduction.
Is there even a blur reduction setting now? Or is it called "dynamic" whatever?
See if the UFO's are glass smooth with no out of sync stuttering at 100hz.
http://www.testufo.com/#test=photo&phot ... &height=-1
Then try 60hz.
Can you also go into the service and factory menus to check the options? The XL2720Z / XL2730Z entry codes should still work.

I can check things out tonight. P.S. I can't read PMs yet: "You are not authorised to read private messages."

I wasn't aware of this feature. Probably a minimum number of posts required in order to use the PM system. I'm not sure if it's possible to manually authorize it.
Try using email for now. If neither of you are comfortable sharing your email on the forum, both of you can email me and I'll put you in touch that way.

Re: Monitor Recommendation List?
Thanks. It wasn't really urgent though. Just wanted some blur reduction tests done to see if Benq actually fixed the firmware in the XL2730Z for the XL2735, or if they just added a few new options, renamed or combined stuff, made a new frame, and decided to charge $500 for it.
I was asking Luckbad if he could check 100hz strobe or "Dynamic Accuracy" or whatever Benq decided to call it now, 60hz single strobe, and a few custom refresh rates through ToastyX CRU, like 85hz and 91hz, to see if Strobing still runs in Sync,
while doing TestUFO Alien invasion full screen.
I also wanted him to check the service and factory menus (they are different menus) in the XL2735.
The service menu entry code is: Power off (don't unplug; entry codes don't work on hard power on after AC off): hold button #4 for 5+ seconds, press power while holding button #4, release when screen appears. Button #4 enters the service menu.
Factory menu : Hold button #3 and #4 for 5+ seconds, press power, keep holding button 3 and 4, release when screen appears. Button *5* enters the factory menu
I still don't understand why it's so hard for them to add correct 100hz strobing and 60hz single strobe.
Even if our old VT tweaks only worked due to a "Firmware bug" with Lightboost mode on the Mstar 8556T scalars, it's not hard to turn a bug into a feature by rewriting code...

Re: Monitor Recommendation List?
100 Hz on the UFO page is very smooth. I see a slight ghost behind the UFOs. I can't really capture it well on my cell phone camera (turns out a little out of focus but isn't actually in reality). I'll upload that pic even though it looks a little blurry. No stuttering or anything though.
