1080i CRT vs 1080p LCD

Post by HappehLemons » 04 Feb 2014, 22:03

I'm a console gamer and I can't stand motion blur or input delay. I'm currently playing on a Asus 1ms display and it's still unbearable to me :( It seems like my only option to avoid this is to switch to a CRT TV, but as the new consoles are released we're seeing a growing of 1080p resolution games. Since CRT TVs only go up to 1080i, will this effect the clarity to motion to the extent where I should use stick with a LCD monitor?

theoretically, you can lose up to half the vertical motion resolution with interlace, and there is also the twitter issue to contend with. But the fact that it's strobed and has essentially no lag may make it a better choice.

You will probably be better off using 720p on the TV as opposed to 1080i

Alternatively, find a good 20 inch+ trinitron monitor if you don't mind the smaller size.

Have you PS3/PS4 or XBOX360/XBox One?

You get any CRT monitor but minimum 17"* for work 1920x1080p@60Hz and you should buy HDMI to VGA adaptor except DVI to VGA for XBox360 only. If you use CRT monitor non-widescreen then we aren't worried at black bars but you may be very happy and fantastic. :)

* - ATTENTION: minimum horizontal frequency 70 kHz

That's news to me, I thought only the Sony FW900 was only capable of 1080p+ resolutions on a CRT. Will any CRT monitor above 17' be able to display in 1080p? If so what are some good ones to go after? Any thing I should keep in mind when going after CRTS?

Yes but attention: CRT monitor should have minimum horizontal frequence 70 kHz!
I remember that I have tested CRT monito Samtron 70E 17" and worked 1920x1080@60Hz in 2003. :D
After CRT, you may get OLED but too expensive.

Keep an eye out for 20+ inch sony trinitrons (and their rebrands). Viewsonic, mitsubishi and lacie also have some good tubes.

Where do you live?

Yeah, I found one on Craigslist for $40. It's a Sony Trinitron branded as an IBM P260. At 1920x1080, it can hit 105 Hz. 1920x1440 at 80 Hz.

I'm located in RI. I'm not having much luck with craigslist. Should I be targeting ebay? I'm willing to pay a pretty good price for one of these.

Would something like this work well:

I had one of those back when they were new and I loved it. I'm pretty sure it can do 2048x1536@60hz and over 200hz at lower resolutions.

Thanks for the help guys! Just to confirm everything.

This CRT will work with PS3/PS4/360 ect.. (I'm assuming I'll need a HDfury for PS3/4)

I'm plan on buying this soon, I just want to make sure this will work with everything, and I'm not missing out on any information!

-Thanks!
