I just sold my old 4770k and assuming nothing goes wrong and it's not DOA for the buyer this Friday when it arrives, I will be able to buy a new monitor.
I do a lot of fast-motion gaming, like Natural Selection 2, Quake, Overwatch, Left4Dead 2. I really want to find a monitor that has really great motion clarity and low input time. Though I am worried as I don't want the image to be too washed out as I do a lot of graphic work too.
These are my current (bad) monitors:

Friend recommended this, but he's a bit bias towards Nixeus:

So yeah... really looking forward to getting a monitor to help with gaming. Most of my targets in motion are generally really blurry.
Price Range : 200$ - 300$ (I want to leave some room for shipping costs)
I would like to get free-sync monitor since I am AMD, but idk how that would play around with the other specs I am looking for.
Looking to buy my first 120-144hz monitor - Need advice
Re: Looking to buy my first 120-144hz monitor - Need advice
Just so you know there are 240hz monitors just around the corner. There is already one which you can buy the benq xl2540 but its like 500 euro/dollar. I would wait a bit if I were you worst case all monitors are going to be around that price range. But I am willing to bed a couple will be a bit cheaper. And even if those are still too expensive it will put some pressure on the 120-144hz monitor market so those will become cheaper.

There is always going to be "something around the corner". I am not going to wait for that and then be told, "Wait, there is something else around the corner now too!.Trip wrote:Just so you know there are 240hz monitors just around the corner. Asus MG248Q (FreeSync) is only $229. Sale Ends in 5 Days (Sat). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6824236722
Without FreeSync: LG 24GM77, Asus VG248QE, BenQ XL2411Z (or XL2411). All of them are on newegg. Nixeus isn't best choice I guess.

Are there any opinions on this forums on motion clarity, responsiveness, or image quality?? I don't know how to go about researching monitors, most of my knowledge is in mice. I want to make sure my monitor is set for gaming, and a bit of graphic work.Q83Ia7ta wrote:Asus MG248Q (FreeSync) is only $229. This is a hell of a commitment I'm making on buying a monitor... want to make sure it's perfect for me for the next few years lol.

Almost all 24" 144Hz TN based on same panel so they perform almost the same.ball2hi wrote:Are there any opinions on this forums on motion clarity, responsiveness, or image quality?? LG 24GM77 is known for good colors out the box.
Asus VG248QE has good quality overdrive (less overdrive artifacts).
Asus MG248Q must be a successor of VG248QE.
BenQ XL2411Z (or XL2411) has quite bad colors out of the box and not best overdrive implementation.
Can't say anything about AOC.
Re: Looking to buy my first 120-144hz monitor - Need advice
I have one. I'll just say: "You get what you pay for". At least when it comes to AOC.Q83Ia7ta wrote:Can't say anything about AOC.
(Not that AOC are super-cheap or anything, because they're not. They're only cheaper than other gaming monitors, which overall are way overpriced. AOC is just the less-overpriced of the lot. Basically it feels like AOC offer a $200 product at $400, compared to most other vendors who seem to offer $400 products at $700).

Exactly what is overdrive? Is that overclocking, or some feature I am not aware of?Q83Ia7ta wrote:Almost all 24" 144Hz TN based on same panel so they perform almost the same.ball2hi wrote:Are there any opinions on this forums on motion clarity, responsiveness, or image quality?? So in other words what you're saying is, AOC offers good products but there are still better products out there. I am willing to spend ~330$ so I'm just trying to make sure this is all researched properly so I can buy a perfect monitor for myself.RealNC wrote:I have one. So far the information here given is kind of vague. I was really hoping for something more concrete on response time or motion clarity. I'm very anal about motion clarity since I hate how I'm feeling like I am looking at a blur while gaming these days during fast motion.
Re: Looking to buy my first 120-144hz monitor - Need advice
I wanted to add here that I am currently using an RX480 from AMD, and that it only has HDMI display ports with only one DVI adapter. Will this prevent me from being able to use 144hz?
