purchasing a 144hz monitor (for CS:GO)

Post by b0t » 16 Jan 2017, 00:24

Hi, just wanted to hear some recommendations for a csgo monitor, Have been really looking into the 2720Z for the past week or so.. since Id like to try out the 27" while maintaining 1080p, and also from my (really poor) understanding this monitor should look thd best after some proper tweaking..
Few questions though,

*Does VT tweaking hurt the monitor lifespan whatsoever?

*Is there anyway to make the monitor look decent @ 144hz (bc I also understand that the highest refresh rate VT can be used is 120[?]) If I dont want to give up the 24hz?

Feel free to comment on my monitor choice aswell, keep in mind that while my main game is CS, Id be watching stuff and working on the PC for the most part of the day (if not all of it)

Also, what about PG248Q? Dont think I intend to go higher than 120/144 tho

No

Not really, too much crosstalk.

if you are going to use Benq Blur Reduction go with Benq, else go with Acer or Asus.

Why would you not want more then 144hz? that's just silly talk. PG248Q is a really good monitor.

more native 240hz are also coming out soon.

Why wouldnt I ?
U just said it .. The thing about crosstalk..
Or what u really mean is that on the pg248q the 180hz will look decent ingame? Color wise.. General image quality , ghosting ; etc..
?

And ty for answering about the first two questions

The PG248Q at 180hz is alright in terms of colour, but since it's only a 120hz panel that is overclocked the contrast and colours are a bit skewed.

If you want high refresh rate i would just wait for Acer's and Asus' monitors with native 240hz panels to come out. They will look much better at higher refresh rates.

I dont really want to wait and also whenever these new monitors come out they will be too pricy for me anyways (for comparison, RIGHT NOW, 2420G is roughly 930$ here)

guess I'll just get 2720z, can anyone help me with basic calibration? AMA,Low blue light, black eq ; etc? (OSD menu mostly, other than that Im gonna vt tweak blur reduction:ON, and use the strobe utility aswell)

I found in the sticky that the best Contrast is 43 (or 10 for the least ghosting possible) , so I need all the other options but that one (RGB colors aswell)

Um, contrast "10" is ONLY when you use benq blur reduction with "AMA Low", to reduce the normal ghosting that results from that tweak. If you set contrast to 10 without doing AMA low, the ghosting becomes a very ugly translucent type image.

Enabling blur reduction and then setting AMA to high AFTER Enabling blur reduction (you can do this by just moving the AMA slider to another setting and then back to high) sets the AMA To low. Changing brightness or ANY strobe setting immediately reverts it.

you can combine a bug where after doing the blur reduction AMA low thing, switch into a picture mode preset that has blur reduction disabled (IN THE PRESET), do NOT disable blur reduction through the OSD. This causes "AMA low" to be applied to blur reduction disabled, which makes the ghosting really really good on the XL2720Z.

oh ok ok, I see , and yes I'll use BR=ON for sure, so with AMA High I should use contrast 43, (thats the ama setting I found to be best looking in ghosting test pictures, 120/144hz)

what about Low blue light & black eq? I cant seem to find anything about how to set these two.. I only read that if lbl=10(max) colors will be become yellowish and terrible in general... should I just leave it at default then?

edit :is the s-switch bug with ama low on br off still applicable IF I VT tweaked? because if I understand correctly after reading ur sticky, I shouldnt VT if br=off ... or am I mistaken?

LBL is the exact same as lowering the blue channel in the RGB slider. I don't bother.
If the inverse ghosting in games looks too bad (usually in 2D games), THATS when I set MBR on, AMA low with contrast 10.

"Exploiting" means "taking advantage of...." or using it.
Don't think too much.

Just wait until you get the monitor and start using it. It's really EXTREMELY simple.
