time to replace my 2233rz?

Post by Nocebo » 13 Sep 2017, 06:32

so i got this samsung 2233rz monitor. im pretty happy with it but since it is really old i might upgrade if i will be able to see benefits in doing so.

i basicly only play cs go so inputlag is the most important thing. im thinking of buying a viewsonic xg2401 if there is a noticibel diffrence in inputlag.

I just upgraded from my trusty 8 years old 2233rz. It wouldn't die so I bought an acer XB252 240 monitor and I can say that for me it was worth it. The image clarity is much better instead of running around in a blur :D

Why not 240Hz?

The higher the Hz, the less input lag even at the same framerate.

The higher the framerate, the less input lag even af same Hz.

Upgrade both.

Hey man,

You have a 2233rz?? You probably saw my review like... 9 years ago! THIS IS ME: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qN7Y6jTpf0Y
Crazy right?

Anyhow, I have had MANY monitors since then and when doing a bit of testing I went back to it and I have to tell you... the lag on it is HUGE! At the time, it was MUCH better than all the other 60hz panels however it doesn't come close to the newer monitors.

Try to get yourself a 240hz screen if possible, you'll be blown away by the difference. Even a newer 144hz monitor will seem like a significant upgrade (especially if you do ULMB / blur reduction).

Seriously, the 2233rz was 5ms (and that was generous) with a bunch of input lag. Newer monitors are light years ahead of it!

ericl -- nice video review on one of the world's first 120Hz gaming monitors!

Yes, almost any newer 144Hz monitor will have less lag, but 240Hz takes the cake.

The jump 120Hz->240Hz is quite noticeable on the Asus/Acer/Benq. CS:GO certainly handles 240Hz fine. And for slower games, even if you get only 100fps, there's generally less lag 100fps@240Hz than 100fps@144Hz. Jumping "120Hz->144Hz" or "144Hz->165Hz" is tiny percentage-wise, but "120Hz -> 240Hz" is quite noticeable in high-framerate gaming. If you very clearly saw 60->120, you will clearly see 120->240 too at current achievable CS:GO frame rates.

P.S. If any of you ever get rid of your 2233rz, I'd love to run some lag tests on a 2233rz with my equipment on it before its 10th anniversary :D -- I'd be willing to purchase your 2233rz (not for much, tho) and then set it aside for 10th anniversary testing. Email squad[at]blurbusters.com if you're selling your 2233rz.

Even 60Hz Samsung gaming monitors didn't have any input lag, so I don't see why this one would.

thnx for the replies. i might go for the 240hz monitors then. i didnt think the diffrence would be that big compared to 144hz monitors. but since im not a big consumer of monitors :) i might as well go all out and buy a higher refreshrate monitor. who knows, it might be 9 years until i buy my next monitor...
