BenQ XL2411Z/XL2420Z LCD panels and PCBs

Post by Q83Ia7ta » 18 Apr 2014, 05:50

Is there any information about what LCD panels and PCBs are in BenQ XL2411Z ir XL2420Z?
I found only information about BenQ XL2411T http://display-corner.epfl.ch/index.php/BenQ_XL2411T same LCD panel is used in ASUS VG248QE, BenQ XL2420T, BenQ XL2420TE.
Currently i have XL2411T and i'm thinking about possibility of updating firmware from XL2411Z. How you think is it possible?

Very interesting idea on attempting to ugprade the XL2411T to XL2411Z.
Most of the differences is really just firmware.

The panel is the same, to the best of my knowledge.
I am not sure about the monitor motherboard, and memory available for firmware, though.

I have a suspicion there may be additional hardware stuff, but I am not convinced -- the panel and backlight control capabilities are theoretically unchanged, just simply better software. It would be a highly risky endeavour to attempt a firmware upgrade; as I wouldn't want you to brick your monitor when you attempt to follow the V2 firmware upgrade instructions.

I have no idea of the motherboard differences of the T versus Z series.

This may not answer all the OP's questions but the XL2420Z service menu says the panel is AUO M24HW01V8 which may mean AU Optronics.

Thanks. Now confirmed that BenQ XL2420T, XL2411T, XL2411Z and Asus VG248QE have same LCD panel. Can you please make photo of service menu?

for what its worth the XL2411T seems to run the XL2411Z monitor inf just fine. Blur Busters strobe utility detects it as being a v1 firmware XL2411Z. I'd be happy to try upgrading it to XL2411Z v2 firmware if I had the MSTAR ISP but it seems hard to obtain in the UK

Be warned, that could brick your XL2411T (attempting to install XL2411Z firmware on XL2411T).
But if it works, please let us know as it would be really interesting knowledge.

The electronics of the XL2411T and XL2411Z does appear to be identical on the exterior, and they do look like they have similar features (with except firmware-based enhancements) -- but this is no guarantee this will succeed.

I'm prepared to take that risk :)

Is there an easy way to download the existing ROM or does anyone know if there is an online source in case I need it?

Gonna solder myself together something based on your plans sometime this week.

The Version 2 upgrade instructions are located here, including the XL2411Z firmware.
www.blurbusters.com/benq/diy-firmware-upgrade-for-benq-z-series/

There is no locations that I know of, for downloading the XL2411T firmware.
