AOC G2460PG ULMB artifacts

Post by jonny30bass » 11 Jan 2015, 22:37

Does anybody else with this monitor have weird moving interlacing lines when ULMB is activated? It happens at 120Hz and 85Hz, but not at 100Hz. Also, they are only noticeable on certain colors. They are the most noticeable at 85Hz. I'm thinking about returning it and getting a replacement.

Bad luck on the monitor, are you getting a different brand or the same model? i live in australia so it's supper hard to get a Benq Gsync, AOC might be my only choice.

If you get another AOC tell me how it turns out :)

It might just be an issue with this model because https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/aoc-g2460pg/ mentions the same issue I have, but it doesn't happen at 85 Hz for them. Other than this issue, I love the monitor. I don't use ULMB often, but when I do, I expect it to work properly and not have moving horizontal scan lines on my screen.

Just picked up the BenQ XL2420G and was going to use it primarily in ULMB mode. However these lines are driving me crazy. Is this normal for ULMB or should I request a replacement? I uploaded a video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJEH0zbuW8c

Make sure to set it to 1080p and you can see it clearly. To be honest, it actually looks worse in person that it does in the video.

I noticed those lines on my asus vg248qe gsync with ULMB in 85hz mode. I can only see them on a dark blue desktop background. They are like small ripples moving upscreen, right? edit - yeah, same as the youtube vid posted above.

At 100hz, it becomes a little bit shimmery. And at 120hz, it's perfect. I can actually detect a faintly slight flickering on the 85hz one as well, but it's almost flicker free. I'm glad the 120hz ULMB one is perfect, since I use that all the time for the desktop (I like it very dim and the non strobed one it too bright even at the lowest setting)

I've just watched your video in 1080p and noticed those lines. I know that effect because it sometimes happened in my BenQ XL2411Z when I created custom resolutions with the VT1500 trick. At some refresh rates, I saw those lines moving even with blur reduction disabled. Sometimes it was upwards and sometimes downwards. Tweaking the vertical total to for example VT1499 or VT1498 made the effect disappear.

In my case, after making it disappear at 120Hz (VT1500), it can still be seen when moving a window (or the game camera) up slowly. When I move it up faster or simply down, I can't see any lines.

So here's your answer: monitor timings. I don't know how custom resolutions affect ULMB because I don't have a G-Sync monitor, but you can try reducing or increasing a bit the vertical total. I hope this can help.

Thanks for the help. However, I was told not to change the timings when in g-sync mode, only classic? The problem is I only use the g-sync/ULMB on this monitor and never use classic.
