Hi everyone,
I'm very close to buying the XL2720Z as I am currently using a RL2455HM and I would like to upgrade.
Basically I also recently built a decent spec gaming PC that I'm wanting the extra Hz monitor for but for the most part I game competitively on PS4 and as I'm wanting a 120Hz plus monitor for the PC I'm also wanting something that will beat my current monitor on console..
My graphics card is a G1 GTX 970 so it can do G-Sync so my other option would be either the AOC G-Sync Monitor (no hmdi) if there is no benefit to be had from other montiors on ps4.. or alternatively I am considering waiting and saving a little extra for the new IPS G-Sync monitor out in march..
Anyway the main thing I'm interested in is the lowest motion blur possible on a HDMI output at 60Hz with the lowest lag time too, I am happy to use the strobe monitor function (which is why I've been looking at the XL2720Z) and I used to use a CRT until the PS4 rendered VGA unusable so I doubt the flicker will bother me as I'm assuming the 360 will have been 60Hz flicker through that? Also I have seen these HDMI to VGA adapters but have seen nothing about people using them to get a better console experience.
But what I dont know much about is the ULMB monitors and if these offer any advantage or even work at 60Hz as I cant find any info on them related to console or 60Hz..
Thanks for any advice, just wanting to avoid a big spend being wasted!
Dave

Best console monitor
AFAIK, to use ULMB during console gaming, you'd need a monitor that strobes at 60Hz...and that would likely flicker a lot.
I think you should just get a regular (60 Hz, HDMI) monitor with low input lag and fast response time measurements, to be honest...

Re: Best console monitor
I asked if it was possible to strobe the asus vg248qe at 60hz, but I was told it's not possible. Then someone informed me that the "benq 2430T and Benq Z series with blur reduction" can strobe at 60hz

But I don't think it would flicker anymore than the CRT he's been using?Black Octagon wrote:AFAIK, to use ULMB during console gaming, you'd need a monitor that strobes at 60Hz...and that would likely flicker a lot.
Re: Best console monitor
At the very least, a CRT is mostly always bright at some point on the screen, whereas most strobed LCDs flash the entire screen at once, then have it dark for most of the frame. I wonder whether this worse on one's eyes than a CRT (a thread about this here). A CRT's persistence curve is also smoother on the falling edge than LED's near cliff.
Re: Best console monitor
The best thing to do is to have the wall behind the monitor lit by a light, this reduces eyestrain. This was already true when we had CRT's.
This also makes the blacks appear darker.

Benq XL2411z, 2420z, or 2720z. I have a XL2411z and run it at 60hz strobed for games like The Master Chief Collection, Forza 5, etc. Any 60fps game looks incredible with Blur Reduction enabled. And look for a sale on XL2411z. I got mine for $300 shipped from Benq. Might be cheaper now.

I bought the xl2720z but I'm having issue with it now :/ might return it and go for the XL2411Z that you've got cskippy
