BenQ XL2411Z lightboost on non-native resolution?

Ask about motion blur reduction in gaming monitors. Includes ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur), NVIDIA LightBoost, ASUS ELMB, BenQ/Zowie DyAc, Turbo240, ToastyX Strobelight, etc.

BenQ XL2411Z lightboost on non-native resolution?

Post by kawzircsgo » 26 Jul 2015, 05:27

Model: XL2411Z with v4 firmware
Display Card: R9 270
Desktop resolution: 1920x1080@144hz

The only game I play is CSGO and the only resolution I want to play with is 1280x960 (stretched). I had created 1280x960@120hz with VT1500 by using ToastyX CRU. However, I can't really tell if the VT tweak was really activated or not. I can't really notice the screen become dimmer which it supposed to be. So here's some questions:

1. How can I confirm that the VT tweak is actually working or not? After I've done the CRU stuff and I launch game, OSD current resolution shows 1920x1080@120hz (which I am using 1280x960@120hz with GPU scaling stretched it to full screen)

2. Is GPU scaling a must to activate VT tweak?

Lot of thanks.

1) To use VT tweak at LOWER than native resolution, GPU scaling must be enabled, then the VT information from 1920x1080 will be downscaled by the GPU, while the monitor receives a 1920x1080 signal.

2) If a VT Tweak is active, the OSD will report 1920x1080@60hz
If a VT tweak is not active, it will report the "normal" refresh rate.
This behavior was fixed in the XL2430T.

So the VT tweak is not active if the OSD is reporting 120hz.

3) did you use the AMD or Nvidia pixel clock patcher, if the pixel dot clock exceeds 330.00 MHz, the custom resolution will be ignored.

4) Lightboost does not use VT tweaks. Perhaps you meant benq blur reduction. LIghtboost is signaled by Vertical totals that are slightly higher than default; 100 hz=1138 VT, 110 hz=1143 VT, 120hz=1149 VT. Lightboost mode must be unlocked with Nvidia 3d vision drivers as strobelight does not function on the Benq Z series.

Thanks for the detailed reply.

I used the pixel clock patcher and checked they were already patched. By your reply, I know that my VT tweak is not working.

As I am not very clear about the difference of lightboost and strobelight, forgive me if I asked silly questions.

I have already used the Blur Busters Strobe Utility with 1.0ms Persistence and the leftest notch for Crosswalk. Can I use VT tweak on top of it to make the motion blur further reduced? or it will do nothing?

You cant create a low resolution with a VT tweak! NATIVE resolutions ONLY.
Low resolutions will NOT WORK correctly and if you enable GPU scaling, your low resolution will be ignored anyway!

Create 1920x1080@120hz with a VT 1500 tweak and use horizontal 2080 and vertical total 1500.
Front porch values 48,3
sync width values 32,5

Do the same for 100hz if you want.
THEN remove your custom 1280x960, then enable GPU scaling.

Then select 1280x960 and it will use the 1920x1080 data with the VT tweak active.

Thanks a lot mate!

Followed the steps and now the OSD current resolution is showing 1920x1080@60hz which means its working :P
