Array-backlighting: necessary for CRT-grade strobing?

Motion blur eliminating strobe backlights found in gaming monitors. This includes NVIDIA LightBoost, Ultra Low Motion Blur (ULMB), EIZO Turbo240, ToastyX Strobelight utility, etc.

Array-backlighting: necessary for CRT-grade strobing?

Postby Oofloom » 04 Sep 2016, 17:11

I recently acquired an array-backlit Vizio TV that supports strobing at 120hz. It's the closest I've seen any LCD come to CRT-brightness and motion clarity without "cheating" by doubling the strobe rate relative to the refresh rate (thereby introducing artifacts and lag).

I guess what I'm wondering most is, what's the brightest PC monitor out there right now, and are array-backlit PC monitors a possibility?
