Ask about motion blur reduction in gaming monitors. Includes ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur), NVIDIA LightBoost, ASUS ELMB, BenQ/Zowie DyAc, Turbo240, ToastyX Strobelight, etc.

Strobelight on Zowie by BenQ XL2411?

Post by Pajas » 25 Dec 2016, 05:42

Hello,

is there a way for me to turn on strobelight on the Zowie version of XL2411?
I know the is a way for XL2411Z and XL2411T, but I was wondering if there is some hope left for me. :D

Thank you beforehand.

Use Benq blur reduction. Strobelight will not work on benq blur reduction monitors, if you are talking about Lightboost mode.

Yes, but Blur Busters Strobe Utility allows you to costumize BENQ Blur Reduction, but it doesn't support XL2411 only XL2411Z.

Use the service menu. Read the sticky in General.

The service menu is only used for making sure of the firmware version, but I may be wrong. I don't see any really viable settings here.

The service menu contains the strobe settings. The windows utility is a front end for the service menu.

Ok, thank you very much, you are great. One more thing, what settings do I have to change to have my monitor be the same way it is after a LightBoost installation? :)

Lightboost has 1 extra deferred frame of input lag from strobing (this reduces the amount of crosstalk at the bottom of the screen).
The Benq equivalent is setting Strobe Phase to 000.

Lightboost uses accelerated scanout to increase the blanking interval to give the pixels more time to finish color transitions during a frame. This causes a reduction in "Strobe Crosstalk".

Benq actually reverse-enginnered Lightboost so thanks to some people here (masterotaku), we found that Lightboost uses a certain internal blanking interval (Done on the LC panel), that is identical to if you created a custom resolution and used a custom vertical total value of "1500" and enabled Benq Blur reduction. I tested it and at 120hz refresh rate, the crosstalk amount is identical when using a VT 1500 tweak.

What you need to do then is to download ToastyX Custom Resolution Utility and download the ToastyX pixel clock patcher (For AMD/Nvidia), run the pixel clock patcher and reboot (or restart the driver with restart64.exe).

Then if you want the exact same crosstalk settings Lightboost gives, you would create the following custom resolutions:
(in ToastyX CRU, not in the Nvidia control panel or the AMD panel!)

"LCD Standard": then change to "Manual":

100hz: 1920x1080, front porch (48,3), sync width (32,5), Horizontal total (2080), Vertical Total (1500).
120hz: same.
Set strobe phase to 000 before enabling blur reduction. Setting strobe phase higher than 049 (120hz) or 059 (100hz) with a VT tweak applied will turn off the backlight.

Then enable benq blur reduction. Strobe Duty set to 009 equals Lightboost 10%, and strobe PHASE 000.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to help me. But just one more thing: in the last sentence you wrote: "Strobe Duty set to 009 equals Lightboost 10%, and strobe duty 000." So you mentioned strobe duty 2 times, the last time you wrote strobe duty should be strobe phase, am I correct?

Yes sorry strobe phase=000.
