Does Overdrive and ULMB add Input Lag?

Ask about motion blur reduction in gaming monitors. Includes ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur), NVIDIA LightBoost, ASUS ELMB, BenQ/Zowie DyAc, Turbo240, ToastyX Strobelight, etc.

AOC just announced a 24" 240Hz G-Sync 1440p monitor (AGON AG251FG). Since it's G-Sync, it most probably uses ULMB. Although I can't find any info if it allows ULMB all the way up to 240Hz.

Downside: it only comes out in August :-P

(Btw, 1440p @ 24" has very high pixel density. The effective resolution is exactly the same as a 4K @ 36".)

Hmm. This seems more like a marketing gimmick - probably the same panel as in the other 24.5" 240Hz monitors. According to http://aoc-europe.com/en/products/pdf/a ... europe.com, screen width is 543mm and pixel is 0.28, so 1980 pixels. Moreover, the recommended resolution for 240Hz is 1980x1080.

ULMB will generally max out at 144Hz for a 240Hz TN monitor.
However, TechReport claims 120Hz.

I noticed you might not be able to have the cake and eat it too: You have to choose 2560x1440 (144Hz) or 1920x1080 (240Hz). But that's an interesting choice -- desktop 1440p and gaming 1080p.

I guess this is a limitation enforced by dotclock limitations (600MHz) and monitor cables at this time. Maybe, perhaps they could implement 120Hz ULMB for 1440p and 144Hz ULMB for 1080p? We'll have to see when it gets released...

Due to LCD limitations, blur reduction (ULMB, etc) usually works best well below maximum refresh rate. NVIDIA has been careful not to push beyond the limits of the monitors -- since it creates a blur reduction display artifact called strobe crosstalk. They like to have an easy ON/OFF setting that doesn't generate complaint.

At this time, only BenQ/Zowie has been more daring to unlock strobing at all refresh rates (regardless) so while you can achieve roughly similar quality at 144Hz strobing on an apples versus apples comparision -- while you will get much worse strobe crosstalk at 240Hz if you try -- but at least you do have the option -- and the ability to adjust (e.g. Strobe Utility, or service menu).

Interesting monitors coming out, nontheless!

Do someone of you guys have new informations about the benq xl2546? Benq "deletes" this monitor from their website and all shops where I preordered the monitor send me a mail that they dont offer the benq xl2546 anymore... :/

I smell shenanigans. You heard it from me first. Take the XL2540, set Blur reduction to "on", rename it as DyAc, relabel and sell it at a $100 premium.

I may have to stop by a Best Buy and toy with a Zowie XL2735.....to see if freesync works...

Ok, thanks for the info. Someone of you guys maybe also know if the new Samsung SHG50 has the backlight strobing from the cfg70 series ? :)

Yes, interesting, if it was a native 1440p monitor. But if it is just a native 1080p, why would I want to choose 1440p for desktop? Making it look like it is a native 2560x1440 monitor while it isn't (at least very likely, as I pointed out in my previous post) is just a new low in how manufactures advertise their products (http://aoc-europe.com/en/products/ag251fg).

It is a native 1440p monitor. 1080p is going to look blurry on it. But if there's no bandwidth available for full 240Hz@1440p, then there's nothing that can be done. I suppose 1440p only goes up to 180Hz or something like that.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Via equivalent adjustments (via monitor menus instead of via strobe utility) -- the XL2540 is able to create a mostly strobe-crosstalk-free 144Hz mode on the XL2540, while you cannot do that on any of the -11, -20, -30, or -35 suffixed monitors from BenQ/Zowie. This is because the XL2540 and XL2546 are both capable of even larger vertical totals than the monitors supported by Strobe Utility. However, instead of using Strobe Utility, you adjust via the monitor menus.
So the XL2540/46 can do strobed 144Hz that's mostly 'strobe-crosstalk' free? And it can go as high as 182Hz strobed but there's more 'strobe-crosstalk'? Did I get that right?

Can all the 240Hz TN screens do strobed 182 Hz? Is that the fastest strobed refresh rate on any monitor on the market right now?
