LG 34UC79G-B Ultrawide 144Hz - adjust strobing?

Ask about motion blur reduction in gaming monitors. Includes ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur), NVIDIA LightBoost, ASUS ELMB, BenQ/Zowie DyAc, Turbo240, ToastyX Strobelight, etc.

LG 34UC79G-B Ultrawide 144Hz - adjust strobing?

Post by GitDat » 17 May 2017, 21:33

I just picked up an LG 34UC79G-B Ultrawide monitor. An IPS/144Hz with strobing! The only thing is with strobing enabled, the screen is a bit too dark.

Is there any way to adjust the strobing like with BenQ monitors to help brighten up the screen? Thanks!

I'm certainly around! Much more so nowadays. ;)

...That said, definitely excuse my abscences of a few days, working on demanding projects. :ugeek:

The LG is not as flexible, alas. You can max the ULMB Pulse Width (100%) & Brightness (100%) -- but that's about it.

P.S. Welcome back! :)

Well we don't have every monitor out there. If there's no setting in the OSD to increase "pulse width" or "scale", then I'm afraid that 's the brightness you're gonna have to live with.

Thanks y'all! Yeah, I don't see a pulse width setting anywhere :( Is this the only 144Hz Ultrawide monitor with strobing?

There's probably more. G-Sync monitors usually support ULMB, and ULMB usually offers a "pulse width" setting. In my case, if I set brightness to 100%, I actually have to lower pulse width, otherwise it's too bright. It really depends on the monitor.

But always double-check to make sure. "Usually" does not mean "always" :-)

It looks like the Acer Predator Z35 Ultrawide does 200Hz and 3D :o I found this on the ULMB pulse width searching Google. Not good because I game at 120Hz :(

"The ULMB feature is accessible from the 'setting' section of the OSD menu. It is only available when running the screen at 85 and 100Hz modes. When you enable the ULMB feature a new option appears in the OSD menu if you drill in to the ULMB option. This new setting allows you to adjust the "Pulse Width"."

Perhaps these Ultrawide's just don't get as bright as my BenQ XL2735 with motion blur enabled :( It seems the LG is brighter than the Acer.

Yeah, 111 is way too low (unless you're using the monitor at night, and even then...)

I don't know why (and if) that's an issue with ultra-wide though :-/

I can't believe I'm saying this, but this monitor is actually reasonable without blur reduction enabled. Here's a shot of the final product :)
