I just stumbled upon this forum and hope someone here is able to help me:
I bought myself a new GTX 980 graphics card and a XB280HK 4k Gsync display hoping I would get a smooth experience. However, I am experiencing very bad screen tearing all the time. In videos (all players), in games (even in gsync compatible ones), even when dragging a windows across the screen. I tried to make a photo. It's not optimal but you get the idea. I assume this it not supposed to happen, especially when running gsync capable games?!
I have already tried re-installing the newest driver and changed the DP-cable with no success. The display is running at native resolution and my old Full HD display shows no tearing. The driver recognizes the display correctly as gsync enabled.
Does anyone have any idea what might be the cause? Might this even be a hardware problem? Your help is very much appreciated
Edit: I'm running Windows 8.1 btw

Re: Very bad tearing everywhere
Try running games fullscreen instead of windowed or fullscreen(windowed). No idea why v-sync would be disabled outside of games.
Re: Very bad tearing everywhere
Thanks, I've already tried that - no effect. With moving windows around I meant normal windows like explorer or my browser. Also happens in fullscreen or windowed videos.

Re: Very bad tearing everywhere
Gsync wouldn't be active in videos, nor would you want it to be. But since you're using 8.1, it should force desktop composition vsync over the top of any borderless window fullscreen anyway.
Do you have tearing on the desktop as well?

Yes, I also on the desktop. It's literally everywhere, as if there was no sync at all.

Re: Very bad tearing everywhere
Have you tried running in a lower resolution, like 1920x1080, does it still tear etc then?
Re: Very bad tearing everywhere
Stupid question, but: did you make sure you installed the latest drivers from NVidia and not an older one by mistake? That's version 347.88 right now.

Re: Very bad tearing everywhere
Thanks for your answers. I tried a different resolution. The tearing is still there, although I imagine it to be a little less. But that might also be the lack of pixels
Driver version is 347.88. I could try installing a beta driver, but that shouldn't be the issue?

Re: Very bad tearing everywhere
In the OSD menu of the display under Information->Mode is it supposed to say GSYNC in compatible games? Because it doesn't, always shows "Normal".
Re: Very bad tearing everywhere
Yes, it will show GSYNC is on in the menu, if it says normal it isn't working. Do you have it on in the NVIDIA control panel?kentgen wrote:In the OSD menu of the display under Information->Mode is it supposed to say GSYNC in compatible games? Because it doesn't, always shows "Normal".
