Can C.R.T Monitor Overclocking Damage The Monitor?

Talk about overclocking displays at a higher refresh rate. This includes homebrew, 165Hz, QNIX, Catleap, Overlord Tempest, SEIKI displays, certain HDTVs, and other overclockable displays.

Can C.R.T Monitor Overclocking Damage The Monitor?

Post by rabidz7 » 22 Jul 2014, 12:34

I know that if a LCD is overclocked to high, it just blackscreens and doesn't suffer any permanent damage. However, I am considering getting a FW900 to replace my junk TN/77Hz/1920x1080, but I want to have a higher-than-stock refresh rate. Can overclocking a C.R.T monitor cause permanent damage?

I think it automatically stops working once out of the max horizontal scan rate is exceeded

with the FW900 you'll be able to get at least 85hz at 1920x1200. I play quakelive at 1280x800 @ 140hz, and do single player gaming at 1920x100@ 85 hz.

Some CRTs don't have protective measures, and they won't turn off or display a warning. Mine didn't, for example. If you have such a CRT, then overclocking it too much *will* damage it. How fast it gets damaged depends on how much you drive it beyond its specs.

The FW900 gives an out of signal range message if you try to push it too far.
