200Hz Display review/questions

Talk about overclocking displays at a higher refresh rate. This includes homebrew, 165Hz, QNIX, Catleap, Overlord Tempest, SEIKI displays, certain HDTVs, and other overclockable displays.

As has been pointed out before the stock power for QNIX monitors are not exactly quality, not sure how you laboratory power supply is measuring up compared to the stock ones from QNIX.

I'm also a bit interested in the quality of the parts in the monitor, namely are the capacitors of good quality? I don't know much about what makes a good one, and haven't opened up my monitor yet mostly cause I lack tools to actually do anything atm.

Also if you could make a guide on how you're doing all of this and post it that would be absolutely amazing. :ugeek:

very interesting and nice to see more people getting their hand on this monitor,
for those who want to buy it, the ebay seller i bought from is offering me a refund and he says the qx2411 DVI only + pixel perfect is out of stock at the moment so becareful not to get multi like me, i found another seller so i'll try to buy from him

I'm not an expert on this, been trying to find answers, so now I'm left wondering.

How you able to get 1920x1080 @ 200Hz (without issues) through a DVI-D dual link or Displayport cable? I've seen a lot people complaining able not going above 120hz (without issues) on say a xl2720z with good AMA and vertical rate settings to reduce ghosting and blur all due to DVI-D dual link cable limitations.

They can't go above 120Hz/144Hz because monitor's firmware rejects higher refresh rate. Almost all monitors has firmwares that rejects higher refresh rates. It's not cable limitation at all.

No, the firmware limits to 144hz, they want use something like 128Hz with blur buster utility and VT mod but encounter problems, many people have said specifically it is the limit of the DVI-D dual link CABLE and that they should just settle for 120Hz and not broach that limit. (~388 MHz)

I answered you in a simple way (refresh rate). There are many other parameters (timings) that can't be accepted by firmware. And pixel clock in drivers.

Yep I agree. Your answer was perfect.

a question for the expert, it seems this monitor does not have any overdrive ? does having a monitor with such high hz can make input lag faster than a screen at 120/144 with overdrive (when a game actually achieve 300+fps)?

No, the firmware accepts it just fine, the problem is they find the ghosting and blur is worse once broaching higher rates than 120hz.worse. people have said that the cable limitation are the problem, this is with overdrive, AMA high. the firmware accepts everything all parameters the results are limited though specifically without a doubt by CABLE, many people have expressed this very clearly on this forum alone.

Spider.....

I have the RAW Firmware files on my hard drive (I also own a mstar ISP unit). I don't think you do.
Q83Ia7ta has access to Benq technical hardware information. You do not. Q8 knows quite a bit about these monitors.

The firmware refresh rate is HARD LOCKED to 145hz on the Benq monitors. You can NOT exceed 145hz no matter what you try.
You can get 146hz to sync and display an image about 1 out of every 10 attempts.

The firmware prevents downsampling of higher resolutions above 1920x1080, but you can get around some of this due to how the scaler interacts with vertical total tweaks. 2560x1440@100hz is possible on the Benq Z series (DVI and displayport; DP @ 6 bpc due to pixel clock dp limits) through display scaling/EDID overrides. 2560x1440@115hz is possible through displayport (6 bpc only) by tricking the scaler into accepting the "accelerated scanout" lightboost range VT (1497-1502). DVI will show "out of range" even with the pixel clock patcher and valid VT and will flicker off and on randomly.

3200x1800@60hz is possible through tricking the scaler into thinking it's using a 3840x2160 VT. Blur reduction is not possible; single strobe off will shut off the backlight. single strobe on will double strobe.

3840x2160 somehow works at 30hz with auto timings.

Asus VG248QE can NOT display anything higher than 1920x1080 without Nvidia GPU scaling or DSR/VSR. VG248QE will not accept a VT higher than 1200.

The Asus VG248QE is locked at 145hz also. You can get 150hz at 1280x720 and 1280x1024 (?) by using different LCD reduced timings. It will NOT work at 1920x1080. ToastyX posted the low res timings for 150hz. it's the same physical panel as the Qinx monitors so it's capable of more (with image degradation).

The Qinx monitors in this thread are not firmware locked. You can run up to the limit that the scaler can show without a white screen or image corruption.
