200Hz Display review/questions

Talk about overclocking displays at a higher refresh rate. This includes homebrew, 165Hz, QNIX, Catleap, Overlord Tempest, SEIKI displays, certain HDTVs, and other overclockable displays.

It's 6 bit+FRC unless they are using the same panel as LG 24GM77.

This AU panel is not capable of "True" 8 bit color. it's the exact same panel as used in VG248QE and XL2411Z/2420Z.
AU Optronics datasheet for this panel shows it as 6 bit+Hi FRC. True 8 bit is impossible.

I would like to have the following default resolution be changed to use 220hz instead of 60/75 with CRU, but when i try it doesn't seem to work

1024*768
1280*768
1152*864
1280*800
1360*768

I have a game that can only run with the default resolution and since I need that one to run 220hz, any idea how I can use CRU to switch it to 220hz and not have 60/75 ? Also which front porch sync width and back porch should i use ?
Do I need to do that in detailed resolution or in custom extension block ?

Make sure you install a pixel clock patcher, otherwise overclocks about 155-160ish will not work.

thanks for answer comanglia :) I found a way to make my game work with the nvidia custom resolution so I don't need to do custom resolution via cru now, all is working fine :)

It's been awhile since I've gave an update.

So I got the new power brick
12v 6a (original was 12v 4a) and this didn't improve overclock stability at all.

at 200Hz the pixel gtg after some testing was noticeably worse after of side by side testing. Don't exactly have high quality equipment for exact numbers but the pixel gtg was rated at 1.5ms originally and it seems to be about 3ms-4ms gtg after overclocking to 200Hz.

Did this by having a BenQ XL2420TE @ 144Hz next to my QNIX @ 200Hz and using a stopwatch test on both and would take a few pictures. 200Hz should display the stop watch about ~1.9ms faster than a 144Hz but testing would show the times being almost identical or the BenQ being slightly faster. Hypothesis as to why; pixel overdrive significantly degrades OR is no longer used upon overclocking.

Overall the horrible contrast/gamma plus the added instability of overclocking with the weakened pixel gtg; I'd say that using a well done 144Hz monitor is a better choice not just for gaming but in general use as well.

Takeaways from this.

OLED monitors will being absolutely insane as they shouldn't have many of the technical limitations this LCD would have. Infinite contrast ratio means it can't really degrade, and response times of OLED don't need overdrive. Meaning that once OLEDs come out and if they're overclockable you could possibly get a 240Hz 1080p monitor with great colors, contrast, and response times. More realistically we'll probably see ~160Hz 1440p OLEDs (but this will be at least a few years off before prices come down for mass production/marketing)

Couldn't you of used this test too compare the pixel response of both your monitors? :)

180hz works fine for me, but as soon as I up it to 192, I get "DVI input out of range." Not sure why, I thought these monitors weren't supposed to have firmware locks.

This is the "multi" version with DVI and HDMI, by the way. (Obviously I'm connected through DVI.)
