ASUS MG248Q

Post by Q83Ia7ta » 21 Apr 2016, 15:12

It's 2016 and ASUS made new 24" 144Hz TN monitor with 4 years old lcd panel?
It also has stereo speakers(!), DP1.2, DVI-D, HDMI1.4, Adaptive-Sync(!), NVIDIA® 3D Vision® 2 (!), fancy stand.

yeah, its years late but its an effort to phase out 144hz non freesync monitors with adaptive sync ones...probably worse and more expensive while cutting out light boost all at the same time...marketing...
though the cheapest 144hz monitor still costs way too much and if it costs more than the VG248QE noone will buy it, if it a refresh at a $100 cut then great...
but people are buying that model for the 144hz anti-blur, if you're playing at low frames to save money on the video card you might as well buy/overclock a 60hz freesync monitor instead...you can get a 29" IPS 75hz freesync for the same price now...

this monitor comes with free sync from 40hz-144hz just so you know. It's at the bottom of the spec page.

I mentioned Adaptive-Sync. There are a lot of 24" monitors with Adaptive-Sync but this one is just like any of them.
I wanna say it's nothing new with new monitors :(

Yeah this monitor makes no sense, the panel is actually even older, since the first xl2420t had the same 144hz tn panel already. They just want to milk that old panel before new high dpi panels get released by AUO, which should be near the end of the year.

The colors and ppi on that ancient 144hz auo panel are abysmal. Ive recently bought a Dell U2515H for the office, which is a 25" IPS panel with 2560x1440 resolution, which also has a very light coating and its day and night difference. Unfortunately the Dell only can do 60hz, but maybe LG will release one day a native 120hz ips panel, that would be great.

Once you get used to high dpi monitors, going back to those ole 1080p 24" monitors is a huge downgrade for the image quality, esp. If those monitors also have an aggressive AG coating like all the 144hz tn gaming monitors oit there.

In fact, I think the best monitor would be a 4K resolution @25". Because with 1440p I can still see the pixels mostly on diagonal white font/objects. With the new Display Port standard 4k at 120hz is possible, so I hope they release such a monitor at 25". 24" feels a little too small to me, so I would either take 25" or 27" at 4k+120hz+adaptive sync or gsync+good IPS or Oled.

I'm hoping it does good overdrive so everyone can stop buying Benq lol.

Kinda annoys me when Benq is at the forefront of the "MLG Gaming Monitor" market and skip on the little things.

From my experience best overdrive and/or panel is at Asus PG278Q.

I was wrong. This monitor is based on never seen before model - AUO M240Q007 V0.
