BenQ Zowie XL2411 vs XL2430

Post by zerom » 25 Nov 2016, 17:22

Hey there, I tried looking for information on this forum but I couldn't find it. Should I get the XL2411 or the XL2430? here they are just for convenience:

https://www.benqdirect.com/xl2430-esports-monitor.html
https://www.benqdirect.com/xl2411-esports-monitor.html

Pros that the XL2411 has (not sure if Z or T? it's the new Zowie rebranded one) is that you can strobe as low as 60hz which is useful if you're playing console on it.

XL2430 has a displayport which is nice but not mandatory since it doesn't have free/g-sync anyway. It's also newer, but I'm hearing word that you can't single strobe at 60hz because it's a bit different from lightboost.

Appreciate any help.

XL2430 is the exact same as the XL2430T, even with the buggy gamer presets. It should have better picture quality than the XL2411 IF you don't touch color vibrance, but you have to deal with the Gamer 1/2/3 presets defaulting the LOW LEVEL COLOR CALIBRATIONS to what FPS1, FPS2 and RTS mode uses even if you save a different preset into gamer 1/2/3 (this behavior does not occur on the XL2411, XL2420 or XL2720Z).

So if I want it strictly for lightboosting (and I may lightboost at 60hz), should I go with the 2411 then? Colors aren't that big of a deal to me I just want features. Ideally I'd get the 2420z but it's always out of stock.

Can the XL2430 single strobe at 60?

All of the Mstar 8556T blur reduction monitors can single strobe at 60hz because they use the same base firmware code.
The XL2430(T) is simply a more buggy version of the V004 XL2420Z, with buggy color vibrance and buggy gamer S-switch presets and 3d vision 2 removed.

It's the ones that switched to realtek where the SS option was removed (when it could have been easily re-added) --e.g. XL2735. And I'm waiting for someone to contact Benq to re-add the SS option in the XL2735.

Is there a list of all the Mstar 8556T ones then? It's an obscure thing that isn't listed in the specs.

Also, which monitor would you personally recommend between the 2411z and 2430? Judging from what you're saying it seems like the 2411 might be a better option despite being older simply due to being less buggy.

And does the blurbusters strobe tool work with the 2430? One of the ones I looked at didn't have it listed on there.

Appreciate all the info Falk.
