XL2720Z - How do I know if my VT Total tweaks are working?

Post by Sirslicey » 08 Dec 2016, 20:58

Hey guys, just not sure if my vertical total tweaks are working, and I don't know how to verify that. I have been playing around with my Strobe duty and Strobe Phase and noticed that my backlight does not turn off past 49 on the strobe-phase. Isn't it supposed to? I was trying to get as low input lag as possible w/ crosstalk not being in the center of my screen. I was able to move strobe phase up to 100. Strobe Duty is 12. I noticed that there was LESS input lag at 100, but I was under the assumption that it was not supposed to work past 49. What's going on here?

1080p 120Hz w/ correct VT total tweaks.(374.40 Mhz) There is an asterisk after the monitor in CRU. I think that means that it's supposed to be working.

Did you use the pixel clock patcher?
DVI requires this. If you exceed 330 MHz pixel clock it will ignore or revert to defaults. Sometimes if you go too far the entire refresh rate gets ignored. Over Displayport you don't need the patcher, but firmware must be V4 or V5 for displayport to work correctly on the XL2720Z and XL2420Z.

Another way to test if VT tweaks are working is to look at
http://www.testufo.com/#test=photo&phot ... &height=-1

And set strobe phase to 000 and see how much crosstalk there is at the bottom of the screen. If there is only a few pixels of crosstalk then it's working. If there's several rows of very bad crosstalk then the custom resolution is not working.

Another easy (probably easiest!) way to check if your VT tweak is working is to go into the OSD->system information and see if it says 60hz. if it says 60hz it's working! :)

Thanks for the quick response man! I checked OSD and it said 1920x1080@120Hz. I am going over DVI. I did try the pixel patcher. But maybe it didn't work? I am also on V005

Edit: Maybe I'm not correctly using CRU, but I swear I had the VT Total tweaks working earlier this year. I remember it saying 60Hz before.

Make sure you reboot. If it says 120hz it didn't work. Not sure why it didn't work though. 374.40 MHz is the correct clock for VT 1500 at 120hz.

Yeah I've definitely rebooted. This doesn't make any sense really... I must be doing something wrong.
I wish I could try testing w/ HDMI, but my computer case protrudes over the hdmi output on my graphics card, physically blocking an HDMI cable from being connected.

Sorry I don't know what the problem is. If it says "Active" next to the monitor name and the asterisk, then it is the active profile. Maybe you need to get a newer version of the pixel clock patcher. I really don't know. I use displayport so I don't have to worry about that anymore. You can check the monitortests.com forum where CRU and the patchers are on. But the patcher clearly isn't working otherwise that custom resolution would work (anything entered in CRU that isn't in red and not past 479 MHz (480 MHz+ is automatically discarded by the driver over displayport) would take effect with a patcher and you would either get a screen, an out of range error, or artifacts.

Well, I still haven't solved the issue, however I did manage to get the VT total tweaks to work, but only with the Nvidia CP. I don't understand why they wouldn't work with TX's CRU, but at least it works now. The improvement in crosstalk is PHENOMENAL.

But quick question. Does this tweak increase input lag vs not using the tweak and setting Strobe Phase to 100? I'm a very competetive FPS gamer(Quake/Unreal) so I'd love to know! Because currently my settings are at Strobe Duty 009 and Phase 040 for minimal input lag.

Thanks for the help btw @Falkentyne

Probably by about 3-4ms at most.

If it isn't working with ToastyX CRU then you need to read the CRU forums. You're using Nvidia. I can't help with Nvidia. I use AMD.
There's some things you have to do to get it working on Nvidia, and I can't help with that. Might be some instructions for the 1.3 version on their forum. Sorry I can't help with that but you're on your own there.
