Win10 BlurBusters Strobe Utility settings not saving

Post by dukeflipchart » 07 Dec 2016, 19:06

Hey guys,

First of all, thanks for this awesome utility, I love it.

I seem to have some problems with it lately however. I have a BenQ XL2411Z, and I have used the utility in the past successfully. Now I have a new computer however, and even though the utility starts out fine, and I can edit the settings, once I close it, it reverts to default again. I don't think the settings are even applied.

I tried running as administrator, no luck.

Does anyone have any ideas that might help me?

It's best to use the service menu.

I read through your guide about this really carefully. I managed to get to the service menu, but I couldn't figure out what Strobe Phase, Strobe Duty or Single Strobe I needed to use. :(

I want to achieve a persistence of 2.0ms, with 0 crosstalk, at 1920x1080/120Hz on my XL2411Z, and set VT to 1350 afterward. Can you help me find out what strobe settings I need to set in the service menu?

VT 1350 will have about 12% lower crosstalk and VT 1500 will have ~25% lower crosstalk.
VT 1350 will not work at 100hz on this scaler without frameskipping (use VT 1354). VT 1500 I think is better; the only drawback being possibly a faint scanlines effect, the same thing you would see if you activated Lightboost 2D mode.

2.0ms persistence is equal to strobe duty 012 when using a VT tweak because the strobe pulse widths are 0.167ms (base) * Strobe duty. I think 2.0ms is a bit high and quite bright; 1.5ms is what I would recommend for you.

I suggest you consider that. (1.5ms persistence):
1 frame higher input lag (~8.3ms at 120hz + 8.3ms from vsync): Strobe Duty 009 + Strobe Phase 000. (there will be some crosstalk at the very top of the screen; this can't be removed unless you use the 1 frame lower input lag setting). There should be no crosstalk at the bottom of the screen.

@ 120hz:
1 frame lower input lag (true input lag will be 8.3ms from vsync + ~4ms average):
Strobe duty 009 + Stobe Phase 041 (the backlight cutoff point is 050 phase, so Duty+phase should add up to 050).
there will be no crosstalk whatsoever at the top of the screen but some noticeable crosstalk around the last two inches of the screen at the bottom. Using Strobe duty 006 + Strobe phase 044 (1.0ms persistence) will reduce the crosstalk slightly.

I've set Strobe duty 006 + Strobe phase 044, VT 1500. It works nicely. Thank you!

Glad it's working for you. I prefer that too at 120hz.
