ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) today announced Swift PG27UQ, a 27-inch G-SYNC HDR gaming monitor that is the very first to offer 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) gaming visuals at an ultra-fast 144Hz refresh rate for the gaming experience with incredible contrast, deep saturated colors, and stunning brightness. Quantum-dot display technology gives PG27UQ a wide DCI-P3 color gamut for more realistic colors and smooth color gradations. In addition, PG27UQ has a peak brightness of 1,000cd/m² and a high contrast ratio for exceptional distinction between light and dark hues. G-SYNC variable refresh rate technology provides tear-free, smooth, and low-lag gameplay. PG27UQ is built for gaming enthusiasts and pro-gamers, and is designed to take gaming visuals to a whole new level.
4K UHD visuals with a 144Hz refresh rate
ROG Swift PG27UQ is the very first monitor to run 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) content at a 144Hz refresh rate to provide gamers with detailed ultra-high definition visuals at extremely super-smooth frame-rates. Gamers are treated to unmatched levels of detail, with sharp images and crisp text. Fast-moving visuals pose no problem for PG27UQ thanks to an ultra-fast 144Hz refresh rate. This results in silky-smooth gameplay with no frustrating lag or motion blur, so gamers get the upper hand in first- person shooters, racing, real-time strategy and sports titles. ROG Swift PG27UQ features two DisplayPort 1.4 and one HDMI port for 4K UHD content playback and versatile connectivity.
NVIDIA ® G-SYNC High Dynamic Range (HDR) monitors offer a range of luminance that is closer to what the human eye can experience, and offer a wider color range than traditional monitors. ROG Swift PG27UQ features G-SYNC HDR technology for a peak brightness several times greater than standard displays for stunning, vivid visuals. The LED backlight is dynamically controlled across 384 zones, enabling very high contrast for richer, more natural dark scenes. Quantum-dot technology provides brighter images and supports the cinema-standard DCI-P3 color gamut. DCI-P3 has a 25%-wider color range than sRGB, resulting in more realistic colors.
In-plane switching (IPS) technology also gives PG27UQ wide viewing angles so there is no color shift even when viewing the monitor from extreme positions. NVIDIA G-SYNC and HDR technologies deliver super smooth, tear-free visuals and the most breathtaking and responsive HDR gaming imaginable with incredible contrast, deep saturated colors, and stunning brightness.

Turns out the $1199 price was a mistake and it might really be $2000. Hope it's worth the hefty price.

This looks like a fantastic display -- 4K+HDR+144Hz+GSYNC+local dimming!
I presume it'll also have ULMB strobed modes, too. (Hopefully still HDR compatible)...LED backlight is dynamically controlled across 384 zones...

Hopefully it will have a ULMB scanning mode to eliminate crosstalk, and not just a strobed mode.Chief Blur Buster wrote:This looks like a fantastic display -- 4K+HDR+144Hz+GSYNC+local dimming!I presume it'll also have ULMB strobed modes, too. That 1000 nit backlight has the potential to significantly improve ULMB too.
This could potentially be the first display to combine ULMB with VRR - it would appear to have all the hardware which would be required to do that well.

As a bonus, scanned backlights will also reduce input lag too.Glide wrote:Hopefully it will have a ULMB scanning mode to eliminate crosstalk, and not just a strobed mode.Chief Blur Buster wrote:This looks like a fantastic display -- 4K+HDR+144Hz+GSYNC+local dimming!I presume it'll also have ULMB strobed modes, too. Day one purchase for me. It has everything but the kitchen sink! (Although I would have preferred slightly larger 30").

Awesome specs, now just wait for prices to come down.
I wouldn't buy an IPS version of this at 2K, an OLED maybe. Of course FALD with scanning backlight would deliver better image persistence while hiding the LCD transitions. I'll have to see this in action. If my next game does well I'll ask for this monitor at work.
But good on Asus for this shot across the bow to the gaming industry, which will now be left scrambling to catch up. It's ridiculous that monitors haven't supported FALD this whole time on its own, it's far more efficient than edge-lit + the contrast is way better (despite blooming). And supporting both HDR and WCG, using FALD. Great great great.
