In need of dire help with BenQ XL2720z

Post by Mathebic » 04 Apr 2017, 07:37

Hello!
I've owned this BenQ XL2720z for about 2 year or so now, but recently had an accident with it.
When I recently moved, the monitor was somehow dropped and took a small hit and the frame around popped off. When I tried to connect it back, I noticed the connector on the frame was broken off, and several pins on the connector itself was missing.
I have managed somehow (I have no clue) to power the monitor on. But need help to find a reliable way to power it on.

As the connector on the frame around is broken, I'm not able to power it on the traditional way with the power button.
I have been in contact with BenQ support, but did not get any help what so ever besides having to send it in and pay $230 to change the frame around the monitor, which I think is way too much for something that takes about 5 minutes.

I am wondering, if anyone of you have a reliable way to power on the monitor when the control buttons + power buttons does not work.
I do however have this "mouse" kinda thing, which makes me able to still control the settings on the monitor.

So does anyone know if I can jumpstart the monitor using the cable going from the panel and into the frame, or if its possible to power the monitor in any other way?

Help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you for reading.
Regards
Mathebic

How exactly would/should I go about doing that?
I have some pictures off the broken connector + cable

I would go to an electrics/electronics repair shop. They should be able to fix that for way less than $230.

Protip:
NEVER lose monitor shipping boxes. Always save them and unmounts and put the monitor in the original box when shipping it around. The monitor box is one of those boxes you never want to lose.

Ouch!

If you are daring -- you could carefully (with a tool of some kind, after the monitor has been unplugged for an hour to drain capacitors) .... to bend the 2 most-bent pins back straight very carefully and very slowly (pins may break off if you bend too fast). Then reconnect the connector -- and maybe 3 or 4 out of 6 buttons will resume working.

I do recommend a repair shop, but not all cities have good repair shops.

We have a fairly decent repair shop, but they charge way too much for me to be able to pay.
But I'm afraid the pins that's already there is beyond saving.
