Yep, I messed up. I set vsync to ON in CP and used CRU to slightly modify the decimal to 120.008. It was smoother but, lightboost seems to do the job without the vsyncI highly doubt that the cause is low-latency vsync. Flicks are in the ballbark of 50ms+.
You were probably using normal vsync and you did not modify your monitor's refresh rate.

Fast sync should eliminate any kind of tearing artifacts. What I think you're talking about is stuttering. To run overwatch at a stable 240 fps you need an insane cpu (7700k at 4.5ghz+), fast ram (3200mhz+) and a decent gpu (1060 or above). That will be at low settings at 1080p. You cant use single player to benchmark this because in actual quickplay/competitive you will not hit the same framerate it will be way lower. If you cant maintain 240 fps at all times input latency will fluctuate and it will become worse the more inconsistent it is. My system consists out of a 4670k at 4.1ghz, 2133mhz ddr3 ram and a gtx 1080 with this system the frame rate occasionally drops to around 170 fps and on average stays around 220 fps at low settings. If you have a system that has less powerful or similar specs I think the reason why fast sync does not work well is because you cant maintain that 240 fps target.

Overwatch does run at 240 stable, but still stutters
currently running a i7-6700k HT at 4.4GHz, Corsair 3200MHz 16GB, 1060 slightly OC'd on-top of its factory OC (1936MHz core & 4096 memory clock)
my settings are all on low with 75% render scale too
edit: i'm looking into getting Acer's 240Hz with G-Sync as my next upgrade. my frames arent an issue, but im looking to max out at 300 with a purchase of a 1070 during summer
currently running a i7-6700k HT at 4.4GHz, Corsair 3200MHz 16GB, 1060 slightly OC'd on-top of its factory OC (1936MHz core & 4096 memory clock)
my settings are all on low with 75% render scale too
edit: i'm looking into getting Acer's 240Hz with G-Sync as my next upgrade. my frames arent an issue, but im looking to max out at 300 with a purchase of a 1070 during summer

It didn't add much latency at 144 Hz uncapped (fps_max 300 in CS:GO); this will of course vary depending on the current max refresh rate/sustained fps ratio. The last official word from Nvidia was that Fast Sync has around 8-15ms more latency than v-sync off on average:

Ye might be there are still some dips down. But 240hz>fast sync so if you buy a 240hz monitor it should be a lot smoother. Fast sync really requires rock solid frame rate to work properly might be there are some micro stutters at certain points, with vsync + lightboost those become more obvious. Pretty nice system you got there though I dont know if a 1070 would increase the frame rate a lot you can put render scale higher though which is very nice.KevOW wrote:Overwatch does run at 240 stable, but still stutters

no, it's way smoother with VSYNC on. I reverted back to 120.000 which turned into 120.004 when i disabled vsync. I'll try the 120.008 without vsync

Personally, I've been on a three month long quest to minimize input lag and motion blur. After TONS of tinkering, I've found the sweet spot to be an 125Hz refresh rate, limiting Overwatch framerate to 123, blur reduction enabled, and the following VT tweak:Try testing a good mouse / mousepad to make mouse movements smooth (see Blur Busters Mouse Guide -- because a poor mouse can further amplify microstutters seen, especially those during blur reduction). During strobed operation, a 1000Hz poll rates makes a noticeable difference over 125Hz/500Hz -- without motion blur hiding the difference of 500Hz-vs-1000Hz mouse fluidity, you will now be able to see mouse microstutter differences between 500Hz and 1000Hz during strobed operation.

Also, if the game's limiter caps to 120.004FPS, then you probably need 120.011Hz to be safe.
And just in case this wasn't obvious, everything discussed here assumes playing in exclusive fullscreen mode. Windowed or borderless mode will not give you a low-latency setup, no matter what you do.
