Re: Micro-stuttering / hitch & Frametime spikes issue

Not all game inefficiencies can be fixed through this method -- different games will behave differently depending on where the inefficiency is. Be noted that creating a RAM disk will starve your memory that could be assigned to the game -- less RAM for running the game. But if you have lots of memo...

Re: Micro-stuttering / hitch & Frametime spikes issue

Interesting... Assuming the RAM disk is configured properly and working as intended, it's possible what we're seeing in Sifu is primarily due to real-time shader compilation, and if so, I'm not sure if a RAM disk covers that scenario. ... Again, Sifu is a UE4 game, and UE4 is famous for shader comp...

Re: Micro-stuttering / hitch & Frametime spikes issue

The refresh rate race makes it necessary too. more on high-Hz than low-Hz systems, because high-Hz makes microstutters easier to see. Disk microstutters, mouse microstutters, etc. Very well explained, Chief, thank you for that. I've taken immediate action and searching for a RAM Disk solution as yo...

Re: Micro-stuttering / hitch & Frametime spikes issue

A 80 GB game will still have less texturestreaming hitching on a 64 GB RAM system than a 16 GB RAM system. Throwing the RAM overkill is a workaround for PC texturestreaming inferiority over PS5. Gotcha - makes perfect sense to throw an overkill of RAM on it - but I never thought of it. I remember p...

Re: Micro-stuttering / hitch & Frametime spikes issue

To maybe import it.. But maybe I should get the 980 Pro, although I am not sure it will be much better than my SX8200.. I'll look into the compromise you said - looks a bit more complicated than Optane  Depends on the perspective. It's simpler off-the-shelf components (more RAM sticks), with j...

Re: Micro-stuttering / hitch & Frametime spikes issue

Intel has kind of put Optane on the back burner so the Next Best Thing is a giant RAM drive big enough to cache one game. A non-Optane non-RAMdrive compromise is simply increasing your disk cache to be big enough to cache the entire game size. That way, after preloading into the cache (even a simpl...

Re: Micro-stuttering / hitch & Frametime spikes issue

Not sure if you know this, but would it be possible to buy a SSD Drive from the US and install it in a European PC? The only difference between US and European PC components is the PSU plug-type. Everything else is interchangeable, so as long as you can order and import the US-sourced SSD in questi...

Re: Micro-stuttering / hitch & Frametime spikes issue

This is one of the cases where Intel Optane Memory is worth it for high refresh rate users who are picky about asset-load stutters -- because they do help those 0.1% frametimes, even if 99% of framerate is unaffected by Optane memory. People say "only 2% higher framerate. MEH!" when it's those disk...

Re: Micro-stuttering / hitch & Frametime spikes issue

However, I saw Chief posting about trying to reduce these frametime hitches, by choosing a fast QD1 SSD drive, but most importantly, an Optane drive. The Chief will have to chime in again, then. I don't personally know of a user-side method of eliminating I/O-related stutter, with Optane or otherwi...
