I've had my current monitor (Acer Predator XB271HU bmiprx) for about 8 years now and have really loved it, but I'm starting to feel like I'd really love to upgrade and experience the higher contrast ratio of modern monitor technologies.

So, long story short, G-Sync is still superior to FreeSync?

Also, I read through the recent G-Sync guides posted (as well as past G-Sync guides) but am still having a bit of trouble understanding the difference between G-Sync+V-Sync and G-Sync+Fast.

Which is preferred in a given scenario and why?

I'm sure this question has been asked ad nauseam but I'm having some difficulty making a determination because of conflicting data. So as of this point in time, which technology is better, and why?

What reasons might I consider for choosing one over the other?

I currently have a BenQ XL2420G and I like it quite a bit, however, I think I'd like to upgrade to 1440P.

It's a pretty rare occurrence, but maybe once or twice in the span of a few hours while gaming my screen will flicker quickly. Usually I think it's some strange amalgamation of colors/lines - it's hard to tell because it happens so fast - and then it goes right back to the game like nothing happened ...
