Re: Anyone else find 60 Hz unworkable?

Hate to bump an old thread, but I replaced my fan for my GTX 1060, and I have noticed a few things: 1) I can still very much tell that 120 FPS is far from seamless. Even when playing very old games, such as Half Life 2, with rock steady 120 Hz Vsync, I still have to do a touch of what I mentioned ea...

Re: Technical Limitations Preventing Ultra High Hz OLED screens

Great stuff, and it’s made me realize some of my earlier concerns were wrong. To address my incorrect concern with updating multiple sequential channels simultaneously causing some weird block update artifacts, we can use a few numbers. 1) Assume a display with a resolution of 1,000 pixels verticall...

Re: SILKY SMOOTH HIGH REFRESH RATE GAMING

I want to apologize, after enabling, disabling a few more times, I think SMT on works fine. It must have been some bug that made games not feel smooth. But def I fixed it by changing SMT off/on I guess, because I didn't change anything else It was theoretically possible that Windows was doing somet...

Re: Anyone else find 60 Hz unworkable?

Any frame rate fluctuations on 60 Hz make games unplayable for me, yes. The amount of feelable choppiness and stutter is unbearable. If you ask me, 120/144 Hz displays should now be the standard for absolutely any use, even moving your mouse on the desktop on 60 Hz display feels like having a strok...

Re: Anyone else find 60 Hz unworkable?

FPS games refresh rate playability threshold for me is probably at least 100-120 Hz, but at this point it would be far from comfortable, just... playable. I just don't wanna go down from 240/280 Hz anymore, I can definitely tell a difference between 144 and 240/280 Hz. Oh no doubt. When I turned vs...

Re: Technical Limitations Preventing Ultra High Hz OLED screens

Actually, this would be perfectly fine for a strobing LCD screen right? If we turn off the strobe backlight, then we can just update the screen with however many channels we want. 8, 16, 32, whatever. We don’t have to worry about the jigsaw effect, or whatever it’s called, because the backlight is o...

Anyone else find 60 Hz unworkable?

I recently had my trusty GTX 1060 break on me, fan issues, and had to revert back to the Intel HD graphics on my i3-4100. On top of this, either because I had to use a VGA cable, or because Intel's drivers suck, my 120 Hz monitor, the AOC C24G1, has been limited to 60 Hz. I'm not much of a gamer mys...

Re: Technical Limitations Preventing Ultra High Hz OLED screens

I did wonder if that would produce human visible tearing artifacts. Shame. But now I'm sort of back to square one. Instead of having 8 channels updating 1/8th of the screen at the same time, have the circuitry to have the top 8 rows of pixels updating, then the next 8, and so on. I suspect this migh...

Re: Is it true Ryzen has higher input lag than Intel? Is there conclusive data to prove this?

Man, this entire thread is something else. So for those who are confused, Ryzen having higher latency on some synthetic test... has nothing to do with the price of tea in China. Memory latency doesn't stack, the processor has cache FFS. Modern, heavily pipelined, superscalar, out of order CPU cores ...

Re: Technical Limitations Preventing Ultra High Hz OLED screens

Clicked on that link, read it to the best of my abilities. Trying to type this out quick before bedtime. The Rolling OLED scanout technique you mentioned made it pretty clear that this was for multiple different frames being scanned out at the same time, top to bottom, where you divide the screen in...
