I recently got Quake Live, I increased the refresh rate, and capped my fps 2-3 fps below my refresh for G-Sync, and this game looks like it's running ULMB! If you had a 400Hz monitor, sure. But there aren't any. On a 144Hz monitor, if you want the frames to be synced, you cannot go higher than 144FPS. Isn't there still other forms of lag besides the G-Sync hardware? Wouldn't a cap limit the ms per frame that the game engine can display?
