And since console games are VSYNC ON, you're essentially bypassing VSYNC ON input lag by using a variable refresh rate display. There's no waiting intermediate buffers needed for GSYNC or FreeSync. Once the buffer goes front buffer instead of back buffer, that's the immediate begin of a refresh cyc...

The game needs to be running in full-screen exclusive mode, and I've had g-sync refuse to turn on when running a non-gsync monitor at the same time. Overlays which support changing opengl/directx settings, such as MSI Afterburner, may break it as well.

If you open the monitor menu and go to the information tab you can see the current resolution, refresh rate, and mode (ULMB, Normal, Nvidia G-Sync).

It's like every other vertical line takes an extra refresh to reach it's supposed color, but which lines alternate between each refresh.
