Re: Good News - A 1440p 240hz without eye strain found, but there's bad news

Lots of forums I've used discourage new threads if there's a topical one to join, but while eye strain and smoothness perception both relate to our eyes, I appreciate the science between their explanations might be very different! DLP Smoothness Perception versus OLED

Moved to a new topic at Chief's request: Why do I find motion noticeably smoother on a DLP projector than OLED TV, both with 16.7ms persistence and input lag? I'm aware OLED pixel response is almost as fast. I've wondered about this for a long time, because I know my eyes are too slow to see the whe...

Re: External BFI Injection -- I am working with Retrotink 4K!

Great answer, thanks! I bought a Sony A80J two years ago but returned it because I found it stuttery in comparison to the BenQ DLP I had. I also found its 60Hz strobing uncomfortable (85Hz was my comfort baseline on CRT). I'm not very demanding of color accuracy and happy with SDR, and because I thi...

Re: Good News - A 1440p 240hz without eye strain found, but there's bad news

I've a related question Chief: why do I find motion noticeably smoother on a DLP projector than OLED TV, both at 16.7ms persistence with similar input lag?

I've wondered about this for a long time, because I know my eyes are too slow to see the wheel's individual colors.

Re: External BFI Injection -- I am working with Retrotink 4K!

Would the Hisense U7K be a good candidate running 1080p at 240Hz? https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/hisense/u7k-u7-u75k I can't read the street names on your test at 60Hz on my projector, but I can with some blurriness at 120. With sequential 3D enabled I can read them perfectly. Unfortunately 3D in...

Re: External BFI Injection -- I am working with Retrotink 4K!

Chief, if the RT4K ran 100:75:50:25 dimming for 60fps at 240Hz, would the MPRT be 10.4, and would this sequence be adequate to hide DLP dithering? I have a 120Hz projector so I'd expect to see weird colors with 1:0 BFI. And if I understand correctly, 60fps lag would remain at 16.7ms on a PJ with 8.3...

Re: DLP BFI for Consoles

Thanks Chief, I think I've read enough to understand PS5 to MitM at a basic level. Beyond that I still don't understand DLP's rasterisation method (frame buffers), but my first question there is whether its wheel phase can be controlled adequately over HDMI? Your vsync heartbeat answer really helped...

Re: DLP BFI for Consoles

Yeah, my old Hauppauge was laggy at capturing because it converts to H.264. What was your vsync solution when you planned to add Arduino BFI to an LCD? I saw Carmack's comment on its importance, but I obviously need to learn how HDMI video is transmitted. The bit that puzzles me is how the relevant ...

Re: DLP BFI for Consoles

Thanks Chief, I'll read that later because my knowledge on those things is very low, but to put my central question in layman's, I believe there's no way of an Arduino box extracting sync timings from the HDMI-out of a PS5? Else I'm puzzled over why MitM BFI can't be inserted precisely for the proje...

Re: DLP BFI for Consoles

In summary, if HDMI is raw video without any timing data (clock channel is just for EDID reading and bandwidth allocation), a blind BFI box isn't a good idea. I finally understand why if that's the case. Nor is modding the wheel any good, because of triple images. While capturing HDMI would add at l...
